If you want to eat egyptian and enjoy a nice old-fashioned atmosphere, Abou El Said on the Island of Zamalek, is certainly worth the money, though not cheap for Egyptian standards (15-20 USD p/p including obligatory service charge). The food is well prepared, tasty and of good quality. The service can definitely be improved and you better order drinks right... more

It's smallish, dark, inexpensive, casual and atmospheric in a coffee house kind of way. A fairly young and/or tourista clientele and an ultimately unmemmorable experience overall. The food was....."ok" I guess (forgettable), the service was...passive ...and at least one of us was sick afterward (unclear if this place was the culprit.) It was recommended by both our tour guide and the hotel... more

Unfortunately, we did not read the recent reviews for this restaurant, but relied on the recommendations of a Cairene and of Lonely Planet. The general atmosphere and ambience were great, but the servers ranged between disinterested to downright surly. The food was among the worst we'd had in 2 weeks of travel in Egypt. Besides being poorly prepared, it appeared... more

Two friends recommended this restaurant - we found the food a little bit disappointing - I had Kosheri - the rice, lentils and pasta dish but no spicy tomato sauce which accompanies this dish in most egyptian restaurants. My husband had the Molakkia, another famous egyptian dish but we found it bland. Our daughter had the quail which was dry.... more

Abou El Sid came very highly recommended from a friend and considering the fact that we love to eat, visiting this restaurant became a 'must do' experience for us. We decided to go for lunch instead of dinner. First the positives. The decor was wonderful and the Stella was cold. Unfortunately this is all I can come up with for... more

This restaurant is located in the Zamalek area in Cairo just a 5 min walk off of the main road where Cairo Marriott is located. The menu had great mezze items like baba ghanooj, mutabel, taamiya( falafels in Egypt), lebne, meat patties etc. One should try the traditioanl Molokhiya soup made from a green veggie called Mallow. The texture is... more

The food is delicious (personally would recommend just going with a load of mezze) and the restaurant itself - the one in Zamelek - was pretty cool, but the service wasn't the most friendly. And I would definitely recommend booking, or go about an hour before your going to be hungry! more

The food was very good & the decor unusual. Our service was was not great. We had difficulty getting wine. When they brought the bill, they had added about $40 extra charges. We disputed this & they did take it off but without apologies. Then when we tried to pay with credit cards, we were told that they would not... more

Abu El Sid offers excellent Egyptian and Lebanese food, probably one of the best in Cairo. You can taste many Egyptian specialities that are usually cooked only in private houses. The decoration, inspired by old Ottoman style which used to be the fashion in Cairo, is extremely beautiful and atmospheric. The sheeshas are great. The main restaurant, in Zamalek, is... more
