I couldn't believe that we were really going to drive 45 minutes for a fried catfish lunch. Arriving at Middendorf's didn't inspire confidence either. Good basic Louisiana seafood, nothing fancy. I miss the atmosphere of the old building they were in , but they still are a very good local restaurant to visit. Best stuffed crab you will find in the area. more

We ate there today for Easter lunch. Over the years I have heard alot of hype about this place, so thought we would try it out. All of the food reminded me of supermarket frozen type fish sticks. Everything from the shrimp to the fries was previously processed and frozen. None of it was gulf-fresh seafood as was once thought.... more

Yes! I said IN THE WORLD! I have lived in Louisiana ALL MY LIFE (I'm still here) and Middendorf's has ALWAYS been the best place to eat true Louisiana fried seafood. A bit of a drive (45 min from N.O., roughly) but the best catfish in these parts. I prefer the thick cut filets, though many locals prefer the thin sliced filets. more
