Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Long intervals for each bun type to arrive. It doesn’t arrive all at one go. The crab soup steam bun takes more than 30 mins to arrive. Some tables received their buns really fast while some like us waited sometime. really good buns but poor...service.More

Very small shop with limited space. Had their specialty crab roe dumpling. Very expensive i would say for 10 pcs cost CNY 108. Taste very nice. Free drinking water from the dispenser.

Jia Jia Tang Bao is definitely your classic hole-in-the-wall (not-so-hidden) gem, where you can find the best Xiao Long Bao in town! We arrived at 11:00am and there was already a long queue in front of the restaurant. We waited for about 30 mins, ordered...2 baskets of pork and crab dumplings and it was the best thing ever! These little pockets of deliciousness wrapped fresh crab flavoured soup and minced pork in thin dumpling sheets. Paired with the ginger-vinegar dip, it got this satisfying sweet and sour flavour, each bite was pure joy!More

So worth the wait, I'm craving this so much right now at 2 am months later. Like everyone says there's 2 types, pork & crab or just crab. The pork and crab is an easy crowd pleaser. It is soupy, savory, juicy, and seasoned so...well. The crab is delicious as well, but it's very rich. If you like crab guts/roe you'll love these. Can we please talk about the crack chili salt they have on the table?? It's sooo good paired with the ginger sauce. TAKE MY MONEY Corona virus or not, I'm eye-ing the $300 roundtrip tickets to Shanghai just for these bad boys. It just might be really difficult to get back the States. lolMore

We headed down to Jia Jia Tanb Bao for lunch. There was already a queue but we waited. The shop is very small and it's a tight fit but the turnover was pretty fast. When were reached the order counter, we were told that only...the mix pork and crab as well as the pure crab baos were available. If you can't read Mandarin, ask for the English menu. We ordered two sets of each. The mixed pork and crab was delicious. Especially loved the broth that oozes out from the steaming bun. Add a dash of vinegar and ginger (you have to pay extra for that) and it's delish. The pure crab wasn't to out taste, unfortunately but to each his own, I say. A good taste of Shanghai overall.More

Limited tables and expect to queue. Only the crab meat flavour was left when we reached at about 8pm. The food was nice. Careful not to break anything. My young son accidentally dropped a tiny empty dish and we were asked to pay for it.

We came here for the Xiao Long Bao (Pure Crab Soup Dumplings), and we were not disappointed. Its and unpretentious little restaurant and although there is a permanent queue, you wont have to wait long as the turnover is quite quick. It is truly remarkable...food, be sure to ask for some Ginger for an extra two Yuan. Make sure that you have a beer and then dip them in the accompanying sauce and drop a few strands of ginger on the top. Be very very careful that you don't burn your mouth as they are served piping hot. Some diners puncture the dumplings and suck out the soup to cool them down but I prefer to feel them pop in my mouth. Prepare yourself for an instant party of flavour popping explosions in your mouth - utterly delicious. They may seem a little pricey at first glance, but that is before you realise that you are being served two baskets of 6 dumplings in each. They are so good they are addictive and the taste will linger on your lips long after you have left. Look for the queue and the white and red signboard (It's in Chinese)More

I have always requested to visit this place whenever I visit shanghai over the last 10years. Before and after renovations, Sitting capacity is still limited but the food is awesome. You must visit this dumpling place when. It is not one of those fancy restaurants...and not filled with tourists. Try the dumplings with crab fillings!More

Locals lined up for the xiao long bao and it did not disappoint. You can only order two kinds - pork and crab. We were a party of 4 so we tried both. The pork was good but it’s the crab that really set this...restaurant apart. They also serve soups but we were too full. We’ll come back!More
