This is a place that does feature regional Tico. I ordered the prawns in garlic and they served 6 of the most gigantic prawns in fragrant garlic sauce. It was amazing. Heads on, perfect presentation. With the local beer, Pilsen, this was absolutely great. But, my wife ordered the pork and rice and it was just so-so, nothing special. They... more

It was a fun place with a great wait staff. The food was just ok despite the fact that a lot of people recommended it. I was expecting better. The Lava Lounge Bar further in town had much better food. The atmosphere was great and very comfortable and inviting. The price was very reasonable and the service was great. more

We ate at this restaurant twice during our visit to La Fortuna. The whole family loved what they ordered. We did not have any problems with the bill. Travelers to Costa Rica should be aware that the service charge is already calculated into the bill- that is their law. It should be a no brainer anymore after that. The prices... more

We ate at La Choza de Laurel, after having two or three locals recommend it. It was good, reasonably priced, and clean with a nice presentation. All the seating is outside- and the weather in Fortuna is always pleasant! Our server was not very good (I think he was new?), but I was watching all the other servers, and they... more

This restaurant was recommended to us for lunch by someone at the reception desk of our hotel (Arenal Observatory Lodge). It was easy to find and we were seated next to some other Americans also staying at our hotel who just found it by luck. The food and service were very, very good. We had no complaints. We had the... more

We visited Choza de Laurel after a long hike and we were starving when we arrived. We ordered a large bottle of water and an appetizer and as we were waiting for our food to arrive we decided to try some of the spicy vinegar-soaked vegetables that were on the table. Wow are those hot! Good food all around and... more

I was surprised at how much we liked this place, so much so that we ate here four times! We tried Las Brasitas (sp?) next door and did not care for it. Here we had the casados (chicken and pork) which my son liked. The highlights for us were the cerviche, octopus and rice, and the shrimp and rice, all... more

We had read rave reviews about the rotisserie chicken at La Choza de Laurel; when we got there we could see big chickens roasting on a spit over a fire. It looked so good, but when we ordered it, the waitress told us no. She didn't speak any English, and I speak a little Spanish, so I would say, "Pollo... more

Stopped here on our way back from Nuevo Arenal to San Jose. I had the quarter chicken with cole slaw and guacamole. It was delicious, cost 2900 colones (about $5) and was more than I could eat. The menu is somewhat small but the typical costa rican foods are there. There was also a man playing the marimba to give... more

We wouldn't have known about this excellent authentic "Typical-Style" restaurant had our driver told us while transporting us from San Jose Airport to Arenal. We were all pleased with the ceviche, arroz con pollo, calimare con pollo, soup & appetizer and "typical plate" that the 4 of us ate, along with desserts. We didn't experience any tip-scam, likely because I... more
