After eating at many quite fancy venues it was so good to have a lunch that is simple and hearty for a change. There are daily specials worth trying

What a wonderful restaurant. Certainly the most authentic Italian restaurant we've dined at outside Italy. Warmest service, friendly and family-like ambiance, and the food is wonderful - it's superb not because it's trying to be clever but because it's real and true, and every thing...comes together perfectly. Looking forward to returning.More
We were treated to a memorable lunch and wine/grappa tasting and tour of the distillery by George Dalla Cia, son of the legendary wine maker Georgio. And what an afternoon, to be remembered on a par with the best of Federico Fellini-style gatherings! Highly recommended...for all lovers of superb Italian cuisine and wineMore
Delicious food that is perfectly cooked is the hallmark of this lovely local restaurant. We had the Ravioli pasta with a divine sauce paired with tender porcini mushrooms. Probably the best pasta dish I’ve ever had.
We’ve been visiting Pane e Vino for several years now. For us, it is among the very best Italian restaurants in South Africa, and certainly stands head and shoulders above any of the other Italian restaurants in Stellenbosch. The food is simple, seasonal and absolutely...delicious. High quality produce prepared with care and respect for tradition. Always a treat to visit, and I’m already thinking it’s time for us to go again!More
Excellent pasta, the owner herself made this, was awesome. Great wine from their estate and ambience with the fire place
This cosy restaurant next to Dalla Cia wines is open for lunch and it is clear why you have to book a table in advance. A small menu against the wall has some regular favorites as well as the specials of the day. All food...is of the highest quality and very tasty. In fact - you could close your eyes and imagine you’re in Italy having lunch. I always go hungry and after the lovely salted bread, do 3 or 4 courses. The service is always friendly and efficient. The wine list is limited to Georgio Dalla Cia’s own wines and fairly expensive, and the limited choice is the only reason why I don’t give it 5 stars.More
It’s a joy to visit this restaurant, the staff are brilliant, the food outstanding, and the ambiance great. The daily blackboard announces the menu for the day. As a lover of Vittello Tonato, it was one of the best I’ve eaten, my companions had caprese...salad and squid, both extremely good.Main courses were also super, and if Grappa ice cream is on the menu - it’s a must have. Wines are interesting and reasonably priced, grappa is made by the owner and his son. This was our second visit, it certainly won’t be our last!More
This is a favorite and we were not disappointed once again. WE ate what the owner/chef recommended which was a sliced cured meat starter followed by minced veal made into small pieces in a sauce. Both very good as usual.
Delicious genuine traditional Italian flavours, enjoyed the ravioli as a shared starter, followed by veal and a wine tasting, in cosy atmosphere with helpful service
Awesome experience with people who are true Italian... a father son combination which warms your heart along with outstanding Italian cuisine and wine and grappa selection of the highest quality. An experience not to be missed....
We had a great lunch here today, sitting by the fireplace in the rain. Marianne helped us with such friendliness and passion, we would actually have liked to stay the whole afternoon! Our soups and lasagnas were great!
The tasting was expensive at R80 and impersonal with all four glasses simultaneously placed on the table and a short brief given whereafter the waiter disappeared. Trying to figure which was which then became nigh impossible. The Caprese salad was actually quite nice with a...large mozzarella as the basis. The beef pasta was bland and without real seasoning. I found the serving size and the price a little incongruent. All-in-all not really a worthwhile experience and there are a great many other places that would probably be more valuable if you want to experience Stellenbosch and the Winelands.More
Helena, the owner is Italian and her food is 100% quality. Freshly prepared on a daily basis with a good variety of dishes to choose from. The restaurant is situated at Bosman's Crossing in an wine making / industrial area and housed at a wine...cellar & Grappa Distillery. Great family wines from the Da La Cia's to choose from and a happy atmosphere. Well worth a visit.More
We always go here. The food, wine and grappa are delicous, and the staff and the host are so friendly. It's a pity it is not open in the evening, but it is a little off the beaten track.
