Matts is about as good as Denny's. It is a great idea for a neighborhood restaurant and that it does accomplish. But, ehhh, not sure what the hype is about. Also noted that they have been sighted for many violations of the health codes of AZ. Hard to have an older building be a restaurant. They need to kick it... more

I can taste the hashbrowns now, oohhhhh so buttery, crispy and delicious! The ham is bone-in and as flavorful as pig can get. The portions are large and if you are looking for traditional, heavy American style dishes, you'll love Matt's. It's what I call "Gourmet diner food." The downside is the building, while sort of eclectic, funky old school... more

Delicious food, especially breakfast, served all day long. The home fries are AMAZING and do not leave without trying the lemonade. It is sweetened with honey and delicous. I will certainly be going back to to Matt's the next time I am in Phoenix. more

This review is based on two dining experiences at Matt's. Yes there usually is a wait. Yes the restaurant is small. Yes the food is fresh and made to order. Yes the owner's wife is always present and most appreciative for your patronage. Now, the details. Come with a book or morning paper to read while you wait. Don't be... more

I waited outside in a light rain with other diners for a seat. I had arrived early hoping that I would not have to wait long. Three or four groups were ahead of me, but I finally made it in the door. The special was a scramble and it was served with a thick crusty slice of bread and fresh... more

The food here is great but do expect to wait in line for a while. Probably the best choice if your going on a saturday is to arrive early and put your name on the list and then head to the farmers market. I would definately recommend giving it a try though. more

Matt's has a very selected menu, but every thing on it is exceptional. They only have 5-6 small table and bar in the restaurant, so the wait is very long (1 hour on a Saturday morning). When you finally sit down, wow is the food excellent. Nothing fancy/shmancy, but quality of the ingredients, preparation and taste is excellent. more

I visit Phoenix once a month & always make time for breakfast at Matt's. It is the classic little diner, renovated nicely, with awesome breakfasts. The ingredients are all local, organic finds & everything is home made. The specials are always good & the ham & cheese omelet is awesome. Yes, there is a wait, but that's half the experience. more

Food was average. Same as you could get at any other breakfast restaurant. Food was not as spectacular as the show leads you to believe. Restaurant was very small and crowded. Tables were small. They even had one so called table which was the window sill with a stainless steel top on it. Who would want to eat at that. more

I had lived in Phoenix for a couple years before I heard about Matt’s on The Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives”. I had heard about the lines so went prepared. We went around 10:00 AM on a Tuesday. Still waited over an hour. One of the waitresses said the wait times were shorter after 12:30 PM. However, the food... more
