Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A pre Christmas couples dinner. We chose from the Christmas menu and had to preorder. When we arrived 10 minutes early we were ushered to our table although we requested to have a drink In the bar first. As soon as we were seated our...drinks arrived with our starter which felt a little too quick. The starter was also tasteless. As soon as each course was finished the next course was in front of us. The main course was not much better it was roast turkey and veg with no taste at all. The dessert was even worse. This was not a relaxing experience at all due to the 3 course meal being served within 25 minutes. We were also seated by a walkway close to the toilets and the staff were not particularly pleasant either. This is supposed to be one of the top restaurants in kings lynn we will not be recommending and will not be visiting again .More

I used to love going to the bank house, however went there boxing day and was hugely disappointed with it Whilst the food was as good as it ever has been the rest of the rest of the experience was very very average This was...meant to be a boxing day treat with the immediate family - the menu was bog standard every day menu no attempt at a boxing day special - the table situation (for which we had a 10 mins wait despite booking - (I can understand that to some extent but it does not set the tone for the upcoming meal when you see everyone else go straight through) was virtually in a door way next to the service passage the starter portion size was not value - even thought tasty - as was mains and deserts - but serving just about large enough portions on big plates does not hide the fact they are just that - just large enough - not sure what was trying to be achieved there - anyway safe to say I will not be going back and felt slightly upset that I could not give my immediate loved ones a good experience just a very average oneMore

Nicely decorated. Good welcome. Pleasant waiter. Ok, an early set menu is not expected to be cordon bleu. But there should be enough good food on the plate. Starters were the only acceptable dishes. Beef medallion, potato and vegetables covered about 1/2 the plate. Eton...Mess was a mess. I have never before seen a spoonful of the stuff just dolloped on a plate, and not in a suitable glass or similar. We told the waiter we were unhappy, and they would tell the chef. No more apology. I could have made a fuss, but...oh well it's Christmas.More

We had a table booked for 8 pm and had trouble parking so get there 6/7 minutes late. As we sat down we were given menus and told to be quick as the kitchen shuts at 8:30. The food was very average nothing outstanding. The...room we were in was old fashioned cold and the acoustics were terrible. We didn’t enjoy the experience at all. Before we had finished eating our main meal the staff were laying up other tables around us for breakfast which made us feel like we were being rushed, we don’t expect this in a restaurant.More

Having recently given a poor review I need to give a new glowing appraisal. Stayed overnight and enjoyed the prix fixe menu for supper, a delight with the plaice main being excellent. Fantastic room and perfect salmon and scrambled breakfast. But the key was the...staff we encountered, (including the kitchen). Small things matter and they got them right.More

Cosy restaurant in the old bank manager's house, situated in the historic part of town. The menu was interesting and the food well cooked. I had the local mussels in a creamy sauce as my main course and my husband had chicken livers. Both were...delicious. The staff were helpful and friendly, Highly recommended.More

We met up with some friends who were staying here and had a meal. It was tasty but the portions weren't huge. I had the chicken breast with dauphinoise potatoes and broccoli. The potatoes were particularly good. We all had a dessert. I had the...brownie and, again, it wasn't that big. There's a good atmosphere in the restaurant but I would think twice about going again.More

A rather disappointing experience for Afternoon Tea in aid of a fundraiser event! 33 people were crambed into what I would describe as a large passageway, where people and staff were going back and forth to the toilet and through to another room. The food...delivery was in 20 minute intervals to the tables, so 1 table would have eaten most of theirs before another table even got theirs. Some food requests had not been adhered to (even when pre-requested) due to allergies and the Tea was like dishwater.More

Hired a meeting room for the family to celebrate a 50th birthday. The waitresses were very helpful and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing…the best chunky chips I’ve ever had and were not greasy at all. The desserts were amazing especially the Eton mess as...was nice and light to have after a meal. The environment was lovely and felt comfortable. It was a night to remember. Will definitely be coming again for a meal. Just want to thank Di for her hospitality, she was fantastic and did a wonderful job ensuring we had everything we need.More

After many great visits in the past probably no more. Got our order wrong, over charged, and food was thrown together it felt like they really don't care. Such a shame as a great place sadly let down by some staff.

Hello Rachel Dogs are allowed in the Bar and on our lovely sunny riverside terrace. We do not allow dogs into the restaurants or any of the bedrooms. I hope that helps. Best wishes Jeannette Goodrich Owner
