First impressions walking through the door were good. Although we were taken to a room up a few steps which didn't seem to be in good a condition as the main dining area (decor wise) The two waitresses didn't seem rude like others have put but seemed lacking in condidence maybe due to inadequate training but were polite. The food... More

We stopped in for lunch late last year, and went for an evening meal this year. Lunch in the front part of the restraunt was fine. The back area (up a few stairs) is not so well maintained, and the evening meal menue is very standard fare, but made with good quality local produce.

We have just had dinner here and were happy enough with the experience. The 2 waitresses were both pleasant and helpful - no surly attitude as described by some other reviewers. My soup was too salty and not particularly tasty. However, my wife's starter and both main courses were good and of ample proportions. We didn't feel the need for... More

Had no real expectations going in as we were just looking for a reasonable dinner. To our surprise the quality of the food was excellent, the portions were large, the service was very friendly and the bill was more than reasonable. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Visited this restaurant last night with family for the first time and found staff unhelpful. One of their waitresses has a very abrupted attitude. They also run a two menu system depending if you have booked or not. Very strange. Have never come across this before in our travels. Food was nothing to write home about. Two of our party... More

The Carters Rest is ideally situated in the town centre of Jedburgh, handy for visitors to the town, minutes from Jedburgh Abbey and has free parking directly outside the premises. It's a well established pub serving traditional British pub grub. Decor is ok but certainly not a place for a romantic meal. Would gladly got there for a pub lunch... More

Our visit to Jedburgh was ruined by a very surly and rude waitress in this restaurant. We felt very unwelcome and she seemed to go out of her way to make sure she had as few customers as possible. She turned other customers away telling them that the tables were reserved. We were there for a further hour and none... More

A warm welcome, and lovely home made soup, judging by the food we saw others had ordered, good size portions at a reasonable cost.

Before I start, we only sampled the afternoon menu, so please consider that when reading this review. Whilst there is nothing significantly wrong with the Carters Rest, there is nothing amazing either. After seeing some of the more expensive options being served (hot mains came in at around £10), we decided to opt for the soup and one of the... More

I have only marked average for atmosphere because it didn't really have the buzz of a busy pub restaurant however the service & food makes up for that. Tasteful decor with friendly & first class waiting of tables. the food took a while to come but that was good because all starters & mains came looking fresh & professional. Large... More
