Description: Established in 2010, Zut! on Fourth renews a historical restaurant location on the fourth street shopping district in Berkeley. The owners of Zut! On Fourth, Abrams/Millikan, are the original architects and builders of the location. In 1978 they purchased all the materials of the old Waves Barracks located on Treasure Island. These materials were made into Berkeley’s first recycled building, giving rise to the primary phase of the Fourth Street shopping district. In its history, the building has housed three exemplary restaurants, including the Mark Miller’s Fourth Street Grill, Ginger Island, and Christopher Lee’s Eccolo. With esthetics and art in mind, the owners, working with local artisans, redesigned the restaurant into an elegant hand crafted environment. Executive Chef Jim Wimborough was hired with credentials from esteemed San Franscico restaurants: Kokkari, Rubicon, Home, Grand Café, and Boulevard. His passion for quality, freshness, and the rotisserie, along with his strong relationships with California’s top small farmers, has generated the dynamic New American/Mediterranean menu. Zut Specialties Zut! specializes in regional Mediterranean/New American dishes prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients by Executive Chef Jim Wimborough. Among our notable starters are the meze platter, local squid stuffed with savory chorizo, and braised white beans with roasted peppers and goat cheese. Not to be missed are Zut's seasonal salads and pizzas and exceptionally prepared whole fish, rotisserie meats, and vegetarian entrees. For dessert, diners can enjoy seasonal fresh fruit granita, muscavado pot de creme, and the Zut sundae. The bar features hand-crafted classic artisan cocktails and creative house cocktails. The extensive wine list features small production grower/producer wineries from California and around the world. The elegant atmosphere composed of custom chandeliers, cast-glass bar shelf, zinc bar tops, and hand painted mural were crafted by local artists. Zut is an ideal venue for large groups and private parties.
