I've been visiting the Bishop area for many years. Schat's has been around a long time. This place is all hype and a tourist trap. The stuff aint even that good! Oh and for those that don't think the cleanliness of the bathroom's doesn't matter - don't be surprised if your baked goods start tasting a little saltier than usual.... more

Great bakery and love the jerky. People whining about the bathrooms should follow my personal rule: don't go to a bakery for the restrooms and don't go to a restroom for the baked goods. more

We were at Schat's bakery a couple of years ago. Then I had no problem with the restrooms. But... authentic Dutch? No. I originally lived in Artesia CA where the Schat's had the orignal Dutch Bakery(later sold to the Lakeman family). That was authentic Dutch! While they still sell good bread but not the authetic Dutch cookies and pastries. Traveler... more

Our group of friends encountered this bakery on our pit stop on our way to Mammoth over 6 years ago......and it was like finding a treasure in the middle of the snow! It is a tradition to stop there on our way back to LA from Mammoth for lunch and sometimes on the way up to Mammoth if time permits.... more

It's been a few years (maybe 6?) since I had the pleasure to visit Schat's, but I must say that it added great memories to the overall Bishop experience. We were bouldering in Bishop (also one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to in my life...and I compare most everything to my own incredible city, North Vancouver... more

On the way home from Mammoth I stopped and bought the Energy Loaf. Excellant!! I will comment on the restrooms. I was very surprised that such a great bakery would allow such disgraceful restrooms. Something shoud be done about that. more

Labor Day weekend 2008 the first opportunity we've ever had to stop at Schat's. Bought only 3 loaves of bread, wish like crazy we had bought more. And want to try the bread mix next time we go by. Understand they used to do mail order. That would be nice. The sheephearders bread is wonderful. more

What the freak? I don't know why people jump all over this "Authentic Dutch Bakery" Nothing authentic or Dutch about it. This place is a zoo...with baked goods being SO-SO. Save your time, and the dirty potties, for another bakery. more

Yes, we all know Schat's for the bread. And the pastries, gelato, candy, jerky, preserves and so on. But have you tried their sandwiches? Oh my....I had a mule kick, which is roast beef with spicy mustard and jalapenos. It was the best roast beef I have ever had--not one bit of fat on it, and very tasty. It came... more
