Having seen it touted on the food network, we expected something outstanding. The buzz was that it had the best chioppino on the west coast. Unfortunately, expectations can get in the way of enjoyment. The chioppino was ok - despite lots of crab legs. The broth was insipid, which the crab could not make up for. The signature artichoke soup... more

This restaurant is about 2 miles east of Highway 1 at approximately an hour's drive from San Francisco and in my opinion is worth the visit. We had the famous artichoke soup, which wasn't disappointing at all and was actually really tasteful and delicate. We also had some fried fish, which was also good. The dessert (we chose the olallieberry... more

After hearing all about this great artichoke soup in Pescadero we decided to drive a couple of hours up to Duarte's. The staff is friendly, but a bit slow and the food was definitely hyped up. After all, I think my dad heard about it from Huell Howser, who I don't care for. The famous artichoke soup is a $8... more

Took relatives visiting us in Santa Cruz for lunch and were unimpressed. The menu was limited and considering size of portions, presentation, and taste, the food and wine were overpriced. The cream of artichoke soup was good but the vegetable soup was tasteless, even after salt and pepper. The sourdough bread, from San Francisco, was served hot and was good.... more

I selected this after seeing it on Diners DriveIns and Dives. It was under the dive cataegory. It is a very odd mix. Their web site and their menu is very high class fancy the surrondings are outdated rough paneling and uncomfortable booths. The service was horrible. There wa sno hostess at the stand so people were milling about. Once... more

This place is clearly a tavern, with lots of drinking space; but at 8:30 am, it's quiet, the breakfasts are great and the portions are generous. One of their specialties is an artichoke heart omelet. Good coffee, too. Certainly not fancy, but 'the real deal' for a local joint. more

Not really a place I have to go back to. The food is nothing special. I can get it anywhere and better. more

The artichoke soup was very good but my calamari sandwich was not so good. The bread was very thin and tasted plain. I thought it would be served on some good old tasting San Francisco sourdough bread. The calamari was a little tough for me also. My sandwich was $$$ and not worth it. more

I agree with the reviewer about the artichoke soup; unfortunately everything else was inedible. My salmon, a "house specialty" was not fresh and overcooked. It was dry as cardboard, and full of bones. Had I opted for additional searing I don't know what would have happened -- a fire in the kitchen? The mashed potatoes were cold and had the... more
