We have dined at Insalata's at least 20, and probably closer to 30, times in the past 10 years -- most recently in April 2009. It's our favorite Marin restaurant, and as one other reviewer aptly suggests, for us it has just the right balance of style and substance. We planned our Thanksgiving meal at this restaurant having had good food and decent service in the past. It was a major disappointment. At $56 for a prix fix menu I was expecting fine dining. What we were served struck me as a "blue plate special." If it had been an $18 meal at a diner, I would be raving.... more

Insalata's balances casual with formal, the exotic with the familiar and fine cuisine with reasonable prices. The head chef and owner, Heidi, designs a contemporary menu that is still understandable. The food is always prepared exquisitely. The staff is friendly and courteous. You will be as comfortable in a suit as you would a polo shirt and jeans. Best of... more
