Dined here after an exhausting day of climbing stairs at Hearst San Simeon Castle, and were greeted warmly by owners, even though they didn't know us. The service was timely, the food was very good, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Everything was cooked to order and very fresh. Be sure to try their orange ice cream! more

Our guide book said to avoid eating in San Simeon, but our hotel (The Morgan) recommended it and had 10% off entrees coupons on reception so we tried The Manta Ray for dinner after taking a look at the menu. This is only a small place and it took a while for staff behind the bar to notice and seat... more

The Morgan Hotel where very very keen to recommend this restaurant as the best in the area, going as far as warning us off the neighbouring mexican. We had a "nice enough" meal. However, it took c20 mins to take our drinks order and another 10 for them to come - I think 30 mins is too long to sit... more

Listen to the negative reviews at your own peril. This is a great restaurant, with solid service. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable, not what you'd expect from a restaurant attached to a motel. The presentation of the food was also surprisingly good. The halibut and seabass are recommendations. One of the best meals of our trip, and went to... more

With all due respect to Quality Inn guests you just don't expect the restaurant attached to a QI motel to be this good. But this was the best meal we had in 2 1/2 weeks in the US. Best for many a week anywhere come to that. Both of our main dishes (Manta Rey saute and Calamari Steak) were just... more

My family makes it a point at least once a year, to visit miguel (the owner) and his staff. The food is always excillent. We have tried different iteams on the menu and it has never been disappointing. We drive two hours each way just to eat at this restaurant. We have even made it a point to have get... more

We had planned a special evening with another couple and picked the Manta Rey due to high ratings. Not only was the food poorly prepared but the prices were not consistent with the portions. I ordered soup and salad - the salad wasn't fresh or crisp and the dressing (Ranch) bland. The soup was okay but a very small cup.... more

I stayed at The Morgan and they recommended eating here and even gave us a 10% coupon for our meal. So we went. The clam chowder was EXCELLENT. My crusted sea bass was good but not worth $20 dollars. My spouse had the salmon which he did not like at all. I have to say that the service was great.... more
