The world of Mexican food afficionadoes in and around Solana Beach is divided (sharply!) between those who love Fidel's and those who love Tony's Jacal, right next door. I LOVE Tony's! I went to Fidel's last night and was very disappointed. I went to the restaurant with a group of 12 for our friend's birthday. After we sat down, it took about 10 minutes to get our drinks and 25 minutes for our server to take our order. When he finally he came, he was actually saying things like "come on"... more

Went to dinner at Fidel's last night. Very disappointed with the food and service. I had a chicken burrito and my friend a chimichanga. The food had no flavor and was reminiscent of college cafeteria food--seriously. The chicken looked pulverized and the accompanying rice, beans and salsa tasted like they came out of a can. Absolutely the best, amazingly enough, this authentic restaurant and Tonys Jacal next door are possibly the two best Mexican food restaurants on the entire planet. I and many of my friends seem to miss these two restaurants more than our dogs when we are away on trips. I am reluctant to give this good a review as it will mean... more
