We live is Essex and visit the Black Seal about 3-4 times a month. Food and service is excellent, regardless of some comments. Great pub food like burgers & nachos or sample some of the great entres. Compred to the Gris which has steadily gone downhill, there is not better place to dine on Main Street in Essex more

We've been going to the Black Seal for a couple of years without an issue. But this past November we were treated very rudely by one of the staff with regard to our children. There is not excuse for this behavior and I doubt we will bother to go back given the great service and food at the nearby Griswold... more

I went out for dinner to the Black Seal on April 4th. The Prime-Rib steak was excellent and my wife really did enjoy her salad. The service quality is average. - Nice place for casual dining. more
The Black Seal is a very casual restaurant. It is very small, and tables are close together. The food is very good and prices reasonable.
