It seems that you are paying for someone to grill for you, but a trip to the pier and grocery store can yield the same dinner for cheaper if you can put forth the effort. It's not like a restaurant you go to that have many elements in a dish, although you pay those prices. The simple food was just... more

I hadn't been back to Guilford in 15 years, but when I came this year, my husband & daughter in law knew that a trip to "The Place" would be part of the agenda & we all looked forward to the evening there. Owner Vaughn greeted us earlier in the day, as he made sure that the table flowers, which... more

After hearing about this place for years my girlfriend and I finally decided to give it a try. We figured a beautiful summer day would set the tone, WRONG! Firstly, I will say the waitress and staff were fine but the food was a big let down. For starters we got roasted clams wi/butter and hot sauce. There were 12... more

We have been going to the place for 25 years, despite moves to St. Louis and then to England. Whenever we are home in the summer, we always make time to go. What we always enjoyed most was the atmosphere-- the staff seemed to enjoy themselves as much as the diners and this made the visit even more fun. This... more

First of all, it's not "barbecue" at The Place. It's all about the grill. And excellent grilled corn, clams swabbed with a bit of butter and ketchup and hot sauce after they open sizzling on the grill (or plain, for purists), one of the best rib eye steaks I've ever had, grilled oysters...and, of course, the lobsters. OMG, if you've... more

The Place is THE PLACE. Awesome seafood, BYOB, sit on a stump and eat off of a wood table. The atmosphere is unparalleled, fun and unique. Grilled lobster is to die for. more

Many of the reviews above were clearly written by people who like their lobster rinsed, stuffed, baked and slathered beyond recognition, their clams breaded, fried, and tartar - sauced beyond imagination and therefore view The Place's seafood fare as "bland" and "tasteless". SO! For all you seafood purists out there - The Place is Your Place! If you like clams... more

Its basically an old fashion clam bake , they have Lobsters, Clams, Mussells, Three varieties of fish, Chicken, Stake, Corn on cob, sometimes they have Baked potato, Brink your Own Beer or Wine , they sell Soda and desert. Owners are... more

The Place is a well known little spot in Guilford. You dine outside, and put your rump on a stump! The seating is actually old tree trunks. The place is indeed unique, but I have to say I agree with the last review - prices seem high for just average fair. We always wanted to try it, and when we... more
