Always worth the wait!
Always worth the wait!
I grew up in New Haven and always thought Modern was way better than Pepe's and Sally's. The sauce is key. It is not bitter or pasty. I live in California now but am back in CT at least once a year. I always pay Modern a visit! Sometimes I even buy a pizza, freeze it, and take it back... More
We took out their pizza. Our relatives go all the way from North Haven because they love it so much. I was anxious to try their pizza, and was glad we did! The crust is thin and crisp, and the ingredients and red sauces are authentic and delicious. Ingredients are thinly layered on top of the pie- it reminded me... More
I'd rate Modern third out of New Haven's top pizza places. I should add that New Haven really does have the best pizza in the USA. That may be hard to believe for some outsiders but have a taste and then I think you will agree! I'd put Pepes and Sallies (both of Wooster St - New Haven) ahead of... More
great pizza, nothing like New Haven Pizza
18" was plenty for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Thin crust. Popular with everyone. Good atmosphere and prompt service. Recommended and would definitely go again. Reasonably priced.
My husband grew up in New Haven, so he was basically weened on Modern pizza... as was his father and his entire family. So it's been a long-standing family tradition that we eat there, especially considering that our house is 2 blocks away from the famed eatery. But over the past few years, the quality of the pizza has gone... More
My wife and I stopped here after reading the reviews. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in and given a booth. It was at the end of the lunch time so the crowd was beginning to thin out. Our server brought the drinks and appetizer quickly. This was our first time with New Haven style pizza and were... More
Probably better than Frank Pepe's and Sally's.
Very good NH pizza, but falls short of Pepe's and my underdog favorite, Bar. Why? Plain and simple. The brick oven here produces a plainer, more workmanlike crust than the magic that comes out of the coal ovens at other NH institutions. The Red Sox memorablia loses them points as well. :)
