I, too, read Port-A-Fan's review and cannot believe their conclusions. I frequent the Bean&Leaf Cafe; it is my favorite spot to hang out and get great hot cocoa at. Their atmosphere is the best in town-very laid back and welcoming. There's a variety of seating types including bar/counters, tables, and couches. Went there June 27 for coffee and conversation, expecting a local Starbuck-like experience. Yikes! The place is in an industrial neighborhood with homeless wandering the streets. Bean & Leaf definitely has the best coffee in town, possibly the best coffee in the state, and maybe even the best coffee in New England (this coming from a total coffee snob). I love coming to Bean & Leaf. Everytime I am up from NYC to visit my family in CT I always try and stop by. fantastic atmosphere, incredible coffee, attractive baristas, and delicious food. art and music from new london locals are displayed and available. there is a community garden maintained year-round by local patrons. additionally, they roast their own coffee in-store which only adds to the unique experience you get every visit. all in all, one of the best coffee shops i've ever been... more
