My wife and I had dinner the other night at this quaint restaurant. I was surprised what an absolute gem. The food was fabulous. There is so much variety on this menu the chef really knows what he is doing. I will definately tell everyone I know about this place a must see. more

After flying in from the cold North we were looking for a nice spot for lunch before checking in that screamed "you're in Florida now, relax!" This place was it. Not fancy or pretentious. Good solid food and cold beer looking out over the beautiful Florida back bays. Grouper sandwich was excellent. Chicken sandwich good too. Did I mention the... more

I don't agree with some of the OLD reviews that the place would go down hill with new owners. In fact I think it is a welcome change. I was just there a last week and hmmm, I guess their prediction was wrong. Still up and running and while I was there, quite a line to get in. The breeze... more

My wife and I went to Big Hickory twice during our Florida stay during the second week of October 2008. I previously saw negative reviews pertaining to the original owner selling the business and meal quality sliding down hill. Nothing could be further from the truth!!! Mike, the original owner sold the business, true, but all the original staff still... more

Big Hickory used to be a great restaurant before Mike and his family sold out the restaurant in the past month. The new owners have obviously abandoned the "neighborhood attitude" and marketing skills that the previuos owners had. The restaurant had always been one of our favorites and we frequented it about once a quarter (we live in SW Florida... more

The food is good but the prices are much too high for the type of restaurant. It is basically a dock fishouse (a bit of a dive). We have eaten here several times because people do rave about it, but I eat out all the time and know food pretty well and this place is good but nothing to rave... more

Big Hickory is a good place if you like deep fried seafood, although they offer some other options. We went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and it's a pleasant little place next to the docks and marina. We tried the peel and eat shrimp (average), chowder (good), dinner salad (good), and our bill was $41 for 2 people, including... more

We ate here for lunch and the seafood is fantastic. The fried oysters, scallops, and shrimp are done perfectly. The atmosphere is definitely laid back marina. There is an outdoor area that overlooks the docks. The prices are a little high for the atmosphere, but worth it. more
