I spent a few month in ceder key and enjoyed the peace and quit of it. But the one thing that stuck with me was the little hole in wall called the blue desert cafe it may be small the food was out of this world and the owner was the only cook that checked on her customers and made... more

If you want a restaurant with really good food at a reasonable price with an atmosphere that isn't too quiet, but quit enough that you can talk and laugh with friends, this is the one. We stayed there past closing and they didn't even try to push us out the door. The food was great and the owner was really... more

We were in Cedar Key for a week and were on our way to a seafood place when we passed the Blue Desert. The cafe had been beckoning all week. We stopped and dined and it was a great experience. The menu was quite extensive--far more so than other places in town -- it's offerings being mainly Italian (as was... more

Just returned from Cedar Key and the Blue Desert was a very interesting find. As noted by earlier reviews it is a little out of "town" and DO NOT be put off the slightly awkward and somewhat shabby appearance of the front porch. We were there on a slow night and found the food to excellent and contrary to the... more

If you are in a hurry, you are probably in the wrong town and definitely in the wrong restaurant. You absolutely have to be willing to wait and its worth it. We love the FRESH ingredients in everything and can really tell that everything is cooked from scratch at the time of your order. The Cioppini is the best soup... more

We've been to the Blue Desert 3 times. Once the food was really good, once average, and once everything was inedible. Every review mentions the slow service, this is an understatement. You will wait anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes for your food, sometimes being the only diners in the room. It's nice to think the long waits are due... more

It's true...you will wait...but unless you arrive starving...it's worth it! Get there early on a nice evening...and spend the waiting time looking over the bayou or watching the occasional car go by!! Sit outside if the bugs aren't too bad. The food costs a bit more...but everything is made from scratch and the quality is great. We tried the white... more

We love this little place, yes, you will wait a while for your meal but order a great bottle of wine and relax because you are in for a treat! Everything we have had there is amazing from raw, fresh oysters to their yummy seafood pizza and calazones, it is all good. Unlike a lot of the restaurants on Dock... more

The Blue Desert is an experience. The food was fresh, honest, good, and well prepared. The funky decor has been well described by other viewers. Be aware that after you place your order (and that takes a while) it will be more than one hour before your dinner arrives; the time you wait is not for private conversation. The waiter... more

The Blue Desert is the best dining experience we've yet found in Cedar Key. It's a bit off the beaten path, but walkable from "downtown" if you're so inclined. The building that hosts the restaurant looks a bit dilapidated, but the interior in intricately decorated. It seats 6 groups at most, so you're best off arriving early for prompt seating... more
