Satchel's is a little out of the way, probably 10-15 minutes from UF. Very good Pizza with lots of topping options. Didn't get a 5 star rating since it was not as good as Pizza we had in New York City, but it was very good. If it is available, you can even eat out side in an old VW... more
A real novelty with OK pizza. Most people rave about their salads which I did not have more
The pizza is fair. All white flour crust is rather tasteless, the wait is too long although they forewarn you that you may have a long wait, it's far more expensive than other good pizza in town and they only take cash. We went on a Wednesday night. It was busy, but we were seated right away, had a small salad shared by the 3 of us. It was very good and plenty big. Satchel's Pizza has developed a cult following in Gainesville which I don't understand. Parking is difficult when the restaurant is busy. Service is minimal. The pizza has good flavor but has always been soggy in the center which detracts from the overall impresion. the place is overated not worth the trouble. the food is okay but pricey. went there for lunch with husband once and have never went back.. i can make my own gourmet pizza for less. with the economy and being located in a college town i question were is the budget menu.. more

This place is AWFUL. Staff: Unfriendly, unhelpful, UNSHOWERED, etc. They take pride in telling people to wait 2 hours for a pizza. I find it detestable that others overlook that and have "Sorry I'm late, I was at Satchel's" bumper stickers on their cars. The atmoshpere at Satchel's is a perfect representation of Gainesville-eclectic, funky, Southern, fun. The pizza is really good with a wide variety of fresh toppings to choose from and the sauce is spicy without being overpowering. The salads are the best in town. True, the prices are higher than chain pizzarias-but the servings are HUGE and the food is wonderful.... more
