Another trip back to LSU, another Saturday at the Chimes. Food: this is Louisiana college bar food. Forget blah burgers and chicken strips, the Chimes has po-boys, crab claws, gator and more. Everything from the shrimp and grits to the mushrooms to the cheese fries with gravy were so good. Just wish they still had the roast beef po boy.... more

My husband, daughter and I had dinner here on May 16. We all enjoyed our meal and the vast assortment of beers. Very clean - especially for a college bar! Across the street is a great place to buy LSU shirts and stuff with low prices. more

A classic Baton Rouge hangout, The Chimes is more of a social hangout than a good restaurant. Their beer selection is great, but their servers are under-educated. The menu is mostly Cajun & Creole, and some things are underseasoned. more

The food here is very good, but the beer is consistently served warm. I am pretty sure that the owners believe that they are serving beer the "proper" way. If you are looking for a huge selection of draft beer served very cold in cold glasses, try The Bulldog. more

Best thing going for The Chimes is its location in the old Tiger Town drugstore/Varsity theatre literally just off the LSU campus. Bar is good and that keeps the place busy. But the heavy-on-the-fried food is mediocre at best. Sunday brunch has a very limited menu with no substitutions. Unless you want crawfish topped poached eggs or a crawfish omelet,... more
