Best place to go for Peruvian cuisine! more

Tucked away on a side street, we were pleasantly surprised by the ambience....ask to sit on the third floor. Food is excellent. Good sized but not ridiculously large portions. Friendly staff. more

Food. We had a Pisco cocktail, smooth but with a punch. Many wines by the glass. The flounder soup was a large portion and very tasty and not something we'd ever had. Our party of four went to La Canela on a relatively slow Thursday night. Ambience is quite pleasant and with relatively few people in the restaurant noise was at a reasonable level. (Tom Sietsema's review in the Washington Post characterized it as extremely loud.) The pisco sours were excellent though they had a bit more foam than I would like.... more

Forget the chain restaurants in Rockville Town Square and head to this little gem. Be sure to try a pisco sour. You can't go wrong with the "Loma". more

Was at La Canela this evening, and I agree with the previous reviewer. Unlike the other, we only had three people. The place looks very nice and some of the dishes are good, but the service was terrible, I don't even know why i even left a decent tip for them. I had a early dinner there last week and It out exceeded my expectation. The decor was beautiful.The furnishing exquisitly carved and shipped directly from Peru. Not that there aren't some good ones already (Inka's Empire, La Limeña), but I think this one has thoroughly integrated exceptional food, ambiance and service. The waitstaff is surprisingly knowledgeable about the plates and have made some very fortunate recommendations. I have been there about 5 times already.
