The atmosphere of the Blue Heron is lovely - paint colors, ect. the large rooms and the very high ceilings make the place feel cold and vacant. The wait staff is great. The food is good - presentation is also very good - but definately not worth the price. Their steak is $34 - without a salas. The Gill Tavern,... more

I've eaten here several times and despite the high prices the food can vary from great to mediocre. They used to have a great reputation but they often miss the mark these days. A bit pretentious too. Service can be very slow. more

We had eaten at The Blue Heron several times while it was located in Montague but not at its new location in Sunderland. The quality of the food each time was okay, but quite expensive. So we were curious about how things would go when the restaurant catered a retirement party for a friend. The party was held on the... more

The Blue Heron is clearly one of the best restaurants for elegant dining in the upper Pioneer Valley region, along with Circa in Noho, Sienna in S. Deerfield, Chez Albert in Amherst and de Paulo's in Turner's Falls. It has definitely kicked things up a notch since opening in its present location a few years back, so if you had... more

We have been to the Blue Heron many many times, and have found it always a wonderful evening of food and ambience. The new venue in Sunderland center is great if you sit downstairs, and we've come to enjoy sitting at the bar later in the evening since the appetizers and salads are much more consistently creative and good. The... more

I have dined at the Blue Heron twice, once back when it was in Montague, the other at it's present location in Sunderland. Both times I and my dinner compainions were not impressed. Expensive, and food was not very good. My father was going to get us a gift certificate to the Heron, and we told him not to bother. more

Locally recommended, this wonderful, charming, classy and big (there is a large upstairs room) restaurant was well received by all five of us who had the pleasure of eating there during "graduation week" in the Amherst area. Good selection of wines by the glass and cocktails, and fabulous appetizers, while the main dishes went 4-for-5 in the cuisine home run... more

Three of us dined on a week night at the Blue Heron and were pleased with all aspects of the experience. My favorite dish is jsut about anything with salmon, so I ordered a delicious salmon filet with perfectly steamed broccolli and couscous. One of the other 2 diners also ordered the salmon, and the other ordered a pork dish.... more

The Blue Heron has been on my list of places to dine for over a year, but I just made it there tonight and I wonder why more people aren't raving about it. Maybe they want to keep it a secret. Tonight was a Wednesday, yet most tables in the large restaurant were occupied. My usual dining partner, a niece... more
