I love American diners! This one is cute, decorated red and blue. The food is pretty darn cheap, my boyfriend and I had coffee and lunch for less than twelve bucks. Score!
Not sure what all the hype is about. Coney Dog was a small steamed bun and wiener with some chili and onions. I really didn't know what to expect, but it was certainly nothing special. Fries were kind of soggy too. Great friendly staff, and the price was right... but personally not the kind of place I'd go back to.
There are four of us traveling around the US we went to try the two coneys that are next door to each other and we all agreed the this place was not very good, the dogs where ok but no where near as good as the dog from next door but having said that what left a bitter taste in... More
If you're looking for a fancy place, ARE YOU NUTS? Fancy Coney Place? Really? Move along, nimrod. This place has the best coneys, hands down in the nation! The chili sauce is perfect. The bun is delicate. The meat is falvorful and it SNAPS BABY!!! The onions are SAWEEEEET !!! Awesome coneys. Lafayette is dang good - this place is... More
As much talk as you hear about American Coney Island I was expecting my first Coney to be an overwhelming experience. I'm a west coast guy so never having had a Coney before in my book they would be going against what I consider to be my benchmarks, Pinks, Dodger Dogs, or even Tommy's if we're going to start talking... I heard this place was amazing, but it was disappointing. Just a plain old hot dog with chili, mustard and onions (yawn). Funny that "Coney Island" is popular in Detroit. Do yourself a favor and visit Nathan's ON Coney Island for a way better dog.
Some friends and I went here after eating at the Lafayette Coney Island right next door. This place is laid out in a much more modern design than Lafayette. The hot dogs at Lafayette are cooked better and the American Coney Island hot dog skin is tougher. I prefer the chili at American because it has a slight kick to... More
Depending on the day. Will determined how your hot dogs are cooked. You can deep fry, roll grill, boil in water, oven bake. All have different taste. The roll grilled hot dog are good. But may sit on the grill for a little to long.
Me and my friend Maria, we go to the Lafayette and American Coney Islands. The Coney dogs that I did have that day tasted better than any food I've had otherware in US of America. The waiterstaff seemed friendlie and willing to take order of me and my friends. An instant favorite.
Great food. Especially the chili cheese fries. The coneys were delicious too. Servers were very attentive and friendly. Nothing bad or negative to say.
