We were in a very large group, yet the restaurant coped admirably. The beef carpaccio was as good as I've ever had and the chicken main was of an equally high standard. Service superb. We were there until late and the front turns into a bar for the trend young things of Tring. Definitely worth a trip. More

Really like Akeman - Atmosphere good, if a little noisy with high ceilings. Food well cooked, but for us the menu doesn't change enough. The few things I've had before and really rated (twice cooked pork) were missing the next time we went. They do have a specials board, but not enough choice for us. More

You've got to admire the team at the Akeman for managing to appeal to so many different types of customer with their cosmopolitan mix of good food and drink and friendly hospitality. You can go to The Akeman for breakfast, coffee, lunch, afternoon tea, a beer after work, dinner or a few drinks with friends. Is it a pub, a... More

Been here a couple of times now for lunch. Both times it has taken an absolute eternity, and a major effort on our part, to order food and drinks. This is made all the more galling as the prices are horrendous. I paid £20 for the sea bass, which was average at best. Inexcusable that it was served with an... More

With their latest Costa-bashing adverts (placed cheekily opposite the store itself) offering coffees (eat in or take away) for just a quid, The Akeman has been putting itself out there recently. We decided to head along for breakfast to check out the hype. First impressions are, I have to say, rather fabulous. Having only ever been there for dinner and... More

We had a lovely meal here on a Friday night which got a little noisy towards the end of our meal (around 10.30pm) but what do you expect, the restaurant and bar are in the same room, so is the kitchen i must add which added greatly to the atmosphere which on the whole was excellent. The food was lovely.... More

I left the Akeman - I think we both did - feeling we'd had a good experience, thanks to the quality of the food. The place was a surprise at first - a huge, rather elegant modern space, very Scandinavian really, tucked away in one of small-town Tring's side streets. While we had a drink and waited for our light... More

Went the other day as we were looking for something to eat nearby and there isn't that much in Berkhamsted. When we arrived we were given a warm welcome. The food itself was lovely with a good mix of dishes and great vegetarian options. The portion sizes were amazing, with a full glass of wine large main and very large... More
