I’ve just celebrated my 50th birthday at The Broad Face with 40 friends and it was the most memorable evening ever! Jonny the manager was so accommodating and hospitable. The food is lovely and ambience too. Highly recommend this place!

Had an excellent meal - well cooked and presented, very tasty. The sticky toffee pudding is to die for. Not the absolute cheapest, but definitely value for money. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, couldn't do enough for you. Very attractive and warm surroundings. There's...a large car about 100 yards away.More
We have always passed this pub on our drive home but never had the chance to go until last night. There is a really lovely vibe in there, the food was fabulous and well priced for the quality. Staff were all really friendly and attentive....We will most certainly be back.More
The first thing to say about this place is that the customer service is absolutely brilliant. From the very first time we stepped in we were made to feel welcome and important to them. The staff are attentive, helpful and very polite. We’ve now eaten...here three times, and each time I’ve expected it to not live up to how good it was the previous visit, but instead it has surpassed it. The quality of the food is fantastic, the quality of the beer matches it. They look after their barrels and clearly take pride in what they serve. The wine list prioritises quality over quantity but still has great affordable options too. I can’t speak highly enough of what is clearly the best pub and restaurant in Abingdon. This is the comfortably the best place to eat or drink in the town.More
We enjoyed a lovely evening at this friendly and hospitable pub. Both had the Halloumi Burger with Chips which was very tasty with roasted vegetables and crispy chips. The service was attentive without being intrusive and staff were friendly and helpful. Thank you Jonny, we...will certainly return.More
freindly staff and great reasonably priced food…… recommend the halloumi burger and fries they were delicious….. the decor in the pub is amazing great place to sit with a pint and watch the world go by outside….. thoroughly recommended
Friendly, civil, solicitous service. The home made pie was shortcrust pastry and going by the time it arrived I guess was freshly cooked - not soggy from heating up - consequently tasting homely delicious. This came with a small mountain of mashed potato and roasted...veg & peas. Wife had sea Bream with Mediterranean veg, also v.good. Basically, tasty, fresh ingredients well cheffed food. Sadly, no space left for desert.More
My wife and I enjoyed our time in this wonderful restaurant. The service by Barnaby was outstanding as was the meal we both enjoyed. My Chicken and leek pie tasted wonderful, home made and cooked to perfection. My wife had haddock, beer battered, thick and...flaky , again cooked to perfection . The chosen dessert of bread and butter pudding with vanilla custard is to die for. Throughly recommend this restaurant/ public house. Thank you Barnaby for your recommendation of your local beer. Overall, an excellent experience at reasonable price.More
Excellent Sunday lunch. good food good wine friendly service by all the staff including Keeley. Interesting decor
Good staff, we had two Sunday dinners, one beef, one chicken, we sat around 12.30, so quite early, in our opinion nothing on the plate was freshly prepared, a very dry chicken breast, beef that obviously had not been carved from a joint that day,...fatty and over cooked. Luke warm canteen veg, a warmed up Yorkshire pudding and reasonable roast potatoes x 3. I would not go back, and recommend nobody else does.More
We dropped in today for lunch, the food was amazing! We ordered a baked Camembert starter to share, this was delicious! For mains we ordered a spinach & coconut Dhal and a homemade chicken curry, both were really well cooked and generous portion sizes! For...dessert we ordered the chocolate brownie and an Eton mess, again both were delicious! This was the first time we have visited the Broad Face in over a year, it is definitely the best it has ever been! The service was really friendly and our dog was made welcome! Highly recommend!!More
I had the fish and chips- was not as good as the takeaway from Tesco. Also, the dessert which I was really looking forward to has been very very disappointing... black forest pavlova. There was nothing to remind of the black forest, nor a pavlova....Simple round meringue with a lot and a lot of sour cream on top, sprinkled with chocolate dust. that's all. Even my 10 years old can do far better. What a disappointment! The price was not worth it at all...More
A little disappointed, I'm not sure who taught the chef to cook triple cooked chips but these were NOTHING LIKE what you'd expect. To me they're crunchy and chip like, not like soggy potato wedges! Other than that, the pavlova lacked flavour, needing more fruit/coulis...and less cream and the cheesecake needed a crunchy base instead of the soggy base it did have.More
We had our Christmas do at the pub and it was fantastic. Delicious homemade food, attentive and friendly service and wonderful atmosphere. Can't wait to be back for yummy Sunday roast. Thank you again!
I want to start by saying the management and front of House staff were great and couldn’t do enough but we had a terrible meal - close to the worst. So while I caveat the management we’re great, they are also are allowing this to...happen on their shift and should be accountable. I ordered a sharing Camembert with bread for starter - the bread was overdone but what sent me into a spin, was that the Camembert - cooked in the cardboard box it came in was in fact a £2 Lidl Camembert, with the sticker still on the box - some mark up for the £13 price tag. I was able to process that maybe their was a supply issue and let’s put that down to experience. Onto main course - as vegetarians, we ordered nut roast - what appeared was shocking and disappointing. Firstly the nut roast wasn’t nutty and was not home made. This looked like a pre bought powdered mix akin to a stuffing mix that was burned and as dry as a desert. Without a doubt the worst vegetation nut roast I have ever experienced. This was accompanied by what looked like “Aunt Bessie’s” frozen roast potatoes, watery gravy and Brussel Sprouts that were untrimmed and not cooked. My wife could not cut through it - it was raw. we were aghast that a so called professional chef would even entertain serving it. We could not eat it and while management offered to cook something else, there was no doubt that the cookery skill of this kitchen was disgraceful. Note to management- this chef and kitchen team will cost you your business and if you are involved in the ordering and menu creation then you too are culpable. The pricing of this menu is not cheap and suggests quality and care - don’t be fooled by what the menu says. It’s such a shame because it’s a lovely looking restaurant in a great location. We went to another restaurant, had an amazing fresh and well cared for meal. We will not return to the Broad Face - such a shame,More
