Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Never been to this pub before. Saw some good reviews, so we thought that we would give it a try. Will definitely be coming back! Fantastic food and very friendly staff. Nothing was too much effort. I would definitely recommend the salmon and prawn fishcake....We look forward to returning and trying some of the other pubs that are linked to it.More

Been here several times now for both an evening meal and a roast on a Sunday (which really lovely!). Lovely atmosphere inside, staff are always courteous and polite especially with our little one. Well worth a visit, really enjoyed the buttermilk chicken burger on my...last visit.More

The staff were very courtious. The food was fantastic, very warm feeling on arrival. The outside area was fantastic, allowing the grandkids to enjoy the play area. All round fantastic experience. Our 2nd visit, but certainly not our last.

I haven’t given a one star review purely because the food was actually quite decent, but this had to be one of the worst experiences we’ve ever had in a restaurant. None of our dishes came at the same time, with a huge wait between...each arrival, so none of us were eating lunch together. Everything took a ridiculous amount of time to arrive. And even when it did come, there were mistakes, which caused even more delays. I’m not normally one to leave a bad review because I know sometimes these things can’t be helped when it’s so busy etc, but the thing that bothered me most is that nobody even acknowledged or apologised for it or bothered to explain what was happening, until we brought it up ourselves. And the male manager on duty in particular did nothing to try and rectify the issues, even after we brought them up, which to me is really poor form and shows a total lack of care for the customer. One excuse (among many) was that the problems were caused by us moving inside (pinning the blame on us essentially). I’m sorry but all we did was ask to move to an inside table, long before our food arrived, which the manager himself arranged for us, so I don’t see how it could cause so much chaos. In the end we asked for a partial refund, which was given, but to be honest it was far too little, too late. We won’t be coming back. And judging by some of the recent reviews, we’re not the only ones.More

We arrived in Tilford for 4 nights R&R on 11th March and visited the Duke of Cambridge on the first evening for dinner. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We ordered drinks and perused the menu, opting for ox cheek pie, pork belly and the...Thai chilli pork. My mum and sister enjoyed theirs but my Thai chilli pork was so so salty, I tried to eat it and was hungry enough to but it was just awful and made me feel ill. We told the waitress of the issue when she came to clear the plates, she said she would report that back to the kitchen. We paid the bill in full as there was no recompense offered for the dreadful meal and headed back to our lodge, during the night I was sick as a result. We had intended to eat there all week but after this we went to a different pub down the road which was lovely.More

Over priced and underwhelming food. I havent been to this pub for awhile and was extremely disappointed to find it had gone into decline. The place was cold they even provide blankets in the main part of the bar/restaurant, which we had to use to...keep warm. The sandwiches we ordered were masquarading as club sandwices. The presentation of the sandwich was poor. It was served on a small wooden platter, totally impractical and it gave us the impression they were trying to 'tart it up' to justify the hefty price tag. My friends and I will not be visiting again and will certainly be telling friends of our experience. I am always fair on my reviews and this review represents my experience at this pub.More

Went for a friends birthday after hearing leave reviews about the roast dinner. Arrived and was seated, before the nan says hello he said “you’ve got an hour girls” really?? £23 for a roast beef. 2 very thin slices of beef, 3 small roast potatoes,...lots of limp green veg. My friend asked for a portion of cauliflower cheese. I wish I’d taken a photo when it arrived.. it was black, dried out in the tiniest ramekin with absolutely no cheese on it, that wasn’t burnt on anyway. She said can you change it and he very reluctantly did. It was £4.50 or something! Over £100 for 3 roast dinners and a kids meal. It’s a roast dinner. Not exactly hard. Service poor food poor. Won’t be back.More

Friends invited us to lunch here. They had previously visited and said how good the Sunday lunch was. The greeting on arrival was friendly and we were quickly taken to our table. We were seated at a table which was on the main thoroughfare to...the toilets, people were constantly walking back and forth behind us with the door being opened and closed, it was distracting. Our drinks and food order was taken and we sat chatting to our friends looking forward to a lovely lunch. From there on in it became disappointing - it took twenty minutes for our drinks order to arrive. Both my husband had ordered our favourite of scallops to start. They were served on a shell which sat on a bed of pebbles - just odd! The actual scallops themselves lacked seasoning and were cut into tiny pieces. It's difficult to judge but I would say I had maybe 1.5 scallops for £10?! The roast was warm, not hot and a slab of carrot and parsnip just isn't nice to look on a plate. The horseradish sauce lacked any horseradish and all in all it was very disappointing. Dessert, £9.50 for cheesecake was steep but was lovely and I enjoyed it. My husband said his latte was luke warm to the point the sugar he put in it, did not dissolve. We then had to make 3 requests for the bill, and the waitress stood over us with the card machine whilst we checked it. The £15 service charge was not deserved at all! Had we been visiting on our own, we would have complained, but didn't feel we were able to on this occasion as we were there on the invite of our friends and had no wish to embarrass them as they were kind enough to invite us.More

The chicken breast was AMAZING and so was sticky toffee pudding. Waitress was lovely but seemed stressed out. Maybe understaffed/overworked.

This place has gone downhill dramatically, staff are rude and not very attentive. Food was substandard and does not reflect the prices. Will definitely not be going back until management is changed.

Absolutely awful. Booked a table and specifically requested in the corner because we have an autistic child. On arrival we were ignored at the bar, then told a table jn the corner wasn’t available but could have one in the middle of the noisy restaurant...or next to a table of ten !!!! Clearly no understanding of autism. We picked a table and it just got worse and worse. It took nearly an hour just for some drinks to arrive ! We had to go and ask if we could order both our drinks and our desserts and the attitude of the staff was horrific no apology no concern that we weren’t happy nothing. The fact that I also requested a table in a corner which there were many of for a disability reason and we booked weeks in advance because this was for a birthday and it wasn’t catered for I think is appalling jn this day and age and we won’t be returningMore

I've enjoyed eating at this pub on many occasions. However, on my latest visit the experience was not good. On arrival we were ignored (despite there being three people behind the bar), and they then served a customer who came in after we had arrived...- which was poor. Our booked table was not ready. We were seated near the doorway which was cold and drafty. Staff made no attempt to welcome us, apologise for the delay, or ask us if our food was OK. We felt rushed at every interaction. The food did arrive quickly (before the drinks), and looked OK, but my roast beef (£24.50) was half gristle. Even asking for a drink was rushed - and the waitress left before I could put my order in.More
