We're on holiday locally. Went on Sunday for the traditional roast beef. It was outstanding, melt in your mouth, beef cooked to perfection, roasties, veg and gravy likewise. We're debating whether it was the best we've ever had or on in the top two. My vote is it's the best I've ever had in a pub. It's not cheap but... More

This was our first return visit since the pub changed hands over a year ago. We booked for Sunday lunch and were dismayed that this formerly welcoming and busy country pub was almost empty, and the pleasing decor changed to a bare bleak blue; no fire in the hearth either. No one greeted us and we had to request a... More

Have returned here three times now because of the quality of the food. I think all the negative reviews on here are from other local establishments who are not in the same league. I have eaten at other restaurants and pubs nearby and this place scores highly on my taste buds. Ok the menu is not vast, but that just... More

The Hollist Arms was chosen this year for The Steak and Kidney Club`s annual lunch. Thirty of us, mostly locals, were given a friendly welcome and were given an excellent lunch cooked by a competant chef. In addition to our traditional steak and kidney pie with suet crust pastry our top quality starter of quail stuffed with foie gras was... More

I'm always suspicious of the odd very bad review on sites such as these, since there is no editorial control. It's especially suspicious when they recommend a pub up the road instead. Firtunately, we ignored the bad review. This was our second visit and we chose this pub/restarant for our Christmas meal away from the family. It was well-cooked, well... More

Following on from the last review I drink at the Hollist live in the village and never feel unwelcome the chef often brings out the most fantastic snacks for the people in the bar so how can he be spending all of his time in london in the bistro he no longer owns the staff are friendly and helpful, local... As many other reviews have noted, this place was once great. Then it changed hands around the end of 2010. Since then, disaster. The new owners are two business partners, one a local woman and the other a French chef who has owned a French restaurant in London, so that should have been OK. Unfortunately they seem to have taken... More

We went a couple of years ago for a wedding, and came back as the day was so memorable. We didnt discover it was under new ownership until the end of the meal but that didnt alter the fact that we enjoyed another excellent evening there... It was relatively quiet which was a shame, but the food was delicious, we... More

My family and I went for Sunday lunch and we enjoyed everything about the place. From the beautiful garden we walked into a bustling atmosphere where we were warmly greeted and led to our table. The furnishings and decor complement the place beautifully. The meal was excellent - my choices (artichoke pate followed by stuffed aubergine) showed that as much... More

Sunday lunch for a party of six, including 2 vegetarians and vegan!! Excellent selection for everyone, food was wonderful, ambiance very friendly and relaxing. We came all the way from Worthing for this and it was well worth the travel. Will definitely come again. More
