After years of adequate if uninspiring 'pub grub' in Braemar when on walking trips this place was a revelation. Nice, bright, dining room if a little squashed. Real ale at the bar. And menus with 'local' ingredients but served with imagination, not cliche. Expensive for the area perhaps but justified by the quality and overall ambience. The excellent rating is... more

We were on our way back after a day out and looked online for somewhere to eat on our journey and found The Gathering. We booked a table for 8pm. Lovely warm and friendly staff and the gentleman who served us was very efficient and helpful. Food was excellent as well. Only negative would be that while the two waiters... more

My husband and I ate here twice during a weekend stay in Braemar. Menu choices, service, attention to detail were all excellent. Highlights? The tower of prawns and its delicious sauce; the steak, which my husband consumed with enthusiasm on both evenings; my house-special game pie (the best I've ever eaten); the huge pavlova with strawberries and raspberries... Sadly, they... more

After eating out the previous night at what can only be described as a very ordinary restaurant what a wonderful surprise to discover this gem of a restaurant. Great service , wonderful food - the best ever soup my 10yr old son has ever tasted! What was the soup you ask cream of tomato and red pepper neither of which... more

We stayed in Braemar for three nights in July and dined at the Gathering Place for two of our evenings there. The service was excellent and the food delicious. The decor and amibiance add to the whole experience. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area. On our third evening we dined at the chip shop across the... more

Having read with incredulity, the experience of complaining Hen Party, I just had to write my own review. Having dined at The Gathering Place many times at weekends when staying in Braemar, I am not sure as to whether the complaining Hen Party actually went to another restaurant in Braemar! The reason that we return time after time, to The... more

I was also with the group of 9 ladies at the "meal" for the hen party on 29th May. Irrespective of any initial complaint or issue, a true reflection of the value a business puts on it's customers is how that complaint is then dealt with. There were so many better ways in which the lady owner could have dealt... more

As part of my hen weekend in Braemar, my maid-of-honour had pre-booked a table for ten at 7.30 pm. The day before our meal, she rang the restaurant to confirm this booking, but to let them know that the party was now only 9. No problem. We arrived at the restaurant in plenty of time. As we waited outside for... more

The table was booked tor 7.00p.m. As the menus were given to the table, they were asked if they would like a drink, they declined. When we went to take the order for food, they said that they were not ready to order, but would like to order something to drink ! They decided to leave. Nothing more to say.

Our group of 7 had a wonderful meal and evening on Sat 8th May, after having spent 10 hours mountain biking and hiking up Ben Avon. The quality of the food is excellent and must rank amongst the top 5 restaurants in Deeside. We were a mix of veggies and meat eaters and they catered fully for all our tastes.... more
