Having debated between Tir a Mor and Poachers we made a big mistake.Should have seen the signs when I asked if the chips were home made!!!!! We chose the 3 course menu. Starters - goats cheese lukewarm, liver pate good. Main - chicken with chorizo/tomatoes ,only ONE piece of chorizo and little sauce totally uninspiring!!!!!!!!!!!! Shoulder of lamb looked and... more

So very sorry you didn't enjoy your dining experience here, but let me clear up a few things. First of all, the goat cheese with salad is served WARM because we think it tastes nicer than served cold from the fridge, but if heated too much it starts to melt and we would be unable to present it on toast;...

We visited to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We ate of the a la carte menu and ate steaks as well as great starters and deserts. All the food was fantastic and the service was helpful and impecable. The locals eat here too so birthday and other family events are going on all round. Really nice ambience. more

I ate at Poachers with my wife and two friends on Saturday 15th August 2009. The restaurant was full upon our arrival at 7.30pm. Nobody appeared to be acting as front of house and although we were quickly seated the welcome was somewhat muted. Looking around the room I formed the impression that it was well patronised by local people... more

Thank you for your comments. I'm sorry that you were not greeted in a friendlier manner, but I am pleased that your meal and service made up for it and that you had a very enjoyable evening. As for the music - it's always difficult getting the volume just right - what is too loud at 6pm is often not...

Exciting to find a restaurant in rural North Wales which prides itself in sourcing good quality local produce and serving a generous portions of whatever vegetables are in season. An admirable, varied menu with traditional British dishes but with the added interest of those little continental and international notes which we love but which obviously so annoyed a previous reviewer!... more

My partner and I were spending a night in Porthmadog last week and the options there for an evening meal were not particularly appealing, so we nipped up to Criccieth and took pot luck in Poachers Restaurant. It's a bright, pleasant, friendly place and all three courses of the meal I had were excellent; the venison, in particular, was delicious... more

We stayed in Criccieth for a week and sampled all the local restaurants - some of them, including this one, twice. We actually preferred Tir a Mor, but we far from disappointed with Poachers and chose to eat there twice. Service is friendly and efficient. The resaturant is a little dark and more cramped than others, but not unpleasantly so.... more

It was our last night in the area, and we wanted something a bit special. At 1730 we booked a table for 1800 (we'd been turned away earlier in the week), and just got in. Slightly frosty reception because I hadn't included the infant in the table numbers - didn't last long though, and we were soon leafing through the... more

O.K.,but not special, very Welsh, even though owner seemed to be German, her German meat pancake speciality.was terribly oversalted. If you like being surrounded by Welsh speakers you will enjoy it,avoid the Gaelic coffee!O.K. for tourists,I would rather pay a little more and go to Portmeirion a few miles away for a more rewarding experience. more

We are delighted and grateful that we enjoy such strong support from locals and tourists alike (is there anyone else?). It's true - depending on the time of year or even day of the week, there may be a majority of Welsh-speaking locals and we are very proud of that fact! Anyone knows that if you want to find a...
