My wife and I dined at Scala the evening of Wednesday Nov 25 while we were in San Francisco for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. We were very pleased with the experience: the quality of food, the reasonable price point, and in particular the friendly and attentive service upon our arrival, and throughout our dining experience. Given the restaurant’s location in... more

The wait staff know the menu well, and will make recommendations if asked. I ordered on the recommendation of our waiter and was not disappointed! I liked the intimate lighting as well as the pleasant background noise. Expect a long wait if you dont have a reservation. more

I sat at the bar and had poor service. My meal (Chicken Ceaser Salad) took forever to arrive. In fact the two other businessmen next to me had ordered hot meals after me, and both arrived before I received my salad. The salad was one notch up from a Chili's Ceaser. A few peices of Romain, topped with Grilled Chicken,... more

After reading the reviews here, I was pleasantly surprised with our dinner at Scala's. The restaurant certainly has a loud "background buzz", but diners were spaced comfortably and we could make conversation easily. The dining room is rather dark with muted lighting, romantic even if you disregard the noise. Service was friendly and efficent. We shared the bruschetta to start,... more

Our hotel was right up the street and we got in late on a Monday night. Walked past the restaurant and decided to give it a try. Didn't have to wait for a table due to the late hour (around 9ish). Ordered a glass of CA wine which was great. Had a small gormet pizza and the Organic Coastal Greens.... more

Had dinner at Scalas Bistro in SF. Food was excellent. Moderately expensive - but not too expensive. Seemed like reasonably good value for very high quality food. Service was excellent. Restaurant was family friendly. They had pasta and pizza options for kids or teens. Sophisticated options for adults. This is not a kids restaurante or a family restaurant - it... more

Walked by this restaurant on the way back to our hotel . Every night it was packed. On our last night I made a reservation. A crowded restaurant obviously does not mean a good restaurant. The place seemed overbooked the hostess looked frantic as she ran around the dining room, Smuggly she told anyone walking in that the wait would... more

My fiancee and I tried this restaurant out on our trip to San Fran. We booked a table for 8pm as we could see it looked fairly busy the night before. From the minute we arrived to when we left I was very impressed. The service was fantastic, the food was the best we had in San Fran, by the... more

We went on a Saturday so you'll need the reservations. It is quite busy and a bit loud but that was the only complaint. The food was spectacular and decent portion sizes too. We took advantage on a 1/2 price bottle of cab and it was fantastic (our own awkward food pairing aside). The staff was attentive to the point... more

This was a great restaurant! We went here two times while in San Fran. Both times the food and service were exceptional. One of the visits was lunch and the other was dinner. With the bread they gave a mixture of Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar which was OUTSTANDING! Prices ranged from about $15 and up depending on the type... more
