it was a pool hall, then fine dining restaurant, a wine snob's haven, a biker bar, a local hangout. i've heard that the food and service has been fantastic at times, but when we went in it was dirty, loud, with insultingly indifferent service and spectacularly lousy food. keep going either to boonsboro or shepherdstown. more

Went here while staying at a local B&B. This is basically a sports bar/pool hall that can't figure out what it is trying to be. We'd been warned that they had changed 'chefs' a lot lately. Hmmm, I'm thinking short order cook is more like it. Came in, wanted a beer - had to go to the bar to get... more

After getting into town we were looking for somewhere to grab a bite to eat. Captain Benders Tavern was just down the street. It was clean. The food was good and very reasonably priced. We both had a Pannini. The service was quick and the staff was very friendly. We would definitley eat here again. more

Great food and quick service. We enjoyed our Panini Sandwiches stacked with meat. Huge Onion rings and the Antietam Ale hit the spot. Go there. more
