This is a fun and gregarious place with lots of energy and pretty good food. The restaurant is more atmosphere than great food and it's expensive for what you get.
It really doest live up to the hype. If you want really good food food for half the price, go to Rinos place in East Boston.
They started us with a fava been spread and bread sticks, which was very tasty. For a starter, we shared the oysters with "petite chipolata sausages". Delicious! For entrees, I chose the veal scallopini, and my companion chose the sea bass. We shared a side of creamy polenta which was fabulous. Everything was great. The tiramisu for dessert (shared) may... My wife and I had dinner last night with friends and our experience was poor for several reasons. The worst part was that I woke up in the middle of the night with my first food poisoning in years and I'm pretty convinced it was the Chilean sea bass. I suppose any restaurant will occasionally be blindsided by that. However,... More
Highly recommend this establishment. Very varied menu with an Italian flare. Upon being seated, we were treated to a fava bean, pesto, olive oil appetizer with fresh strawthin bread sticks. Yummy! Five dined at our table in a meal sharing experience from appetizers to entrees. Obviously the waiter was accustomed to diners requesting to share plates as our waiter didn't... More
We went to Scampo but a recent visit to Boston, based on the recommendation of a friend who lives in Boston. It was a wonderful find -- great, innovative food; attentive wait staff and co-located with The Liberty Hotel, a charming hotel set in a building that dates to the 1850s (and which for years served as a prison). The... More
Went here at the spur of the moment after a long day of travel with about 7 other fellow conference attendees - without reservations. The host was unflappable; she remained calm, didn't act entitled to advanced notice, was pleasant and reasonable in her communication to us about what our options were. Surprisingly, we didn't have to wait very long at... More
The ambiance is why you come to scampo. The food is good and the service is decent. We went for a friends birthday and she was happy overall.
While staying at the lovely Liberty Hotel, my husband and I planned a special dinner at Barbara Lynch's # 9- but as the Red Sox were playing in game 5 of the World Series, we opted to dine in Scampo, the restaurant is in the hotel, and are we glad we did. Micheal was our server and he was great,... More
Scampo's is one of my old reliables. Although usually crowded (reservations are a near must most of the time), I do client dinners here all the time, but the tables are sufficiently set apart that conversations work fine. When I'm alone I often sit at the counter. I have always had great service, there is a wine list for almost... More
