Walking around the South End on a Sunday morning, a trip to Flour goes a long way to making you feel that you're a world away. Brownstones with identical iron fences and quiet side streets with tiny well tended gardens belie the bustle you encounter at the counter. It's crowded but efficient and it won't be five minutes 'til you... more
We were scared by the long line, but it moved very quickly. Ordered the chocolate cupcake, almond croissant, sticky bun, jelly donut and a ham and egg sandwich which we split among the three of us. We all LOVED everything - the sticky bun is what its supposed to be, croissant flakey, cupcake dense and that egg sandwhich was to... more
The pastries are definitely terrific here. Too big, but that's a problem in many places. A little overpriced, but I can live with that too. The real problem is that the service is very slow, always. They can't seem to move at more than one speed, and particularly at lunch time, that's just not acceptable. more
Before a recent vacation to Boston, my wife found an episode of "Throwdown with Bobby Flay" from the Food Network where Bobby challenges the owner of Flour to a Sticky Bun throwdown. We watched the show and decided we would stop at Flour before checking into our hotel. We found it with out too much difficulty thanks to my iPhone... more
Flour is an excellent restaurant. I was attending a professional meeting in Boston (staying at the Westin on the waterfront), and Flour was within walking distance. I enjoyed it so much that I ate there for dinner once and lunch twice. Lots of excellent sandwiches, and the desserts are to die for. I highly recomend the double chocolate Scharfenberger cookies.... more
I eat at Flour for lunch a few times a month, as I work relatively close by. If going during lunch hours, I find the earlier you go, the better off you are, as the line is generally shorter. It is extremely popular and the ordering system is a little slow. The food makes up for the time you spend... more
family of 3 dined here 6/21/09 (father's day) for brunch. As expected the place was packed and the line was almost out the door. The baked items on display are amazing and I only wish they offered a sample of, say 10 goodies. Who would/could eat a whole sticky bun or any other of their incredibly large items? We tried... more
All around great bakery/cafe. It has a really nice atmosphere and you can tell that they serve only quality ingredients. It seems to get a little crowded on the weekends but there is lots of seating especially outside and it's worth the wait. more
Good food, but a bit pricey for the portions. Lunch time was extremely busy and a total madhouse. They need a better system to get orders out in a timelier manner. more
