Yesterday while watching the Food Network, we were thrilled to see a San Diego restaurant on "The best thing I ever ate". Bobby Flay said that the Elvis french toast was amazing at the Cafe 222. We made plans to go there this morning to try it out. I was super excited, what could go wrong? Well, a lot unfortunately.... more

Went for breakfast this morning. The pumpkin waffle was awesome. My son tried the peanut butter stuffed french toast and it filled him up. My husband had eggs, toast and some great tasting potatoes. The coffee was excellent. Go early because the place is small and fills up if you get there after 8am. more

Just returned from a San Diego vacation that included visiting Cafe 222 five times! It was a nice morning walk from our hotel and we were hooked after the first visit! Highly recommend the pumpkin waffle and the peanut butter & banana French toast. However, nothing disappointed us. Sinad and Laura were our main servers, but everyone was friendly, the... more

The words "I'll Make Waffles" uttered by the Donkey in Shrek should be the motto for Cafe 222. They have pumpkin waffles, pecan waffles, peanut butter waffles, 5 grain waffles. If waffles aren't for you then maybe tamales and eggs are. I had Joe's Special and, I guess I'm spoiled by going to Original Joe's as a kid, but I... more

Really great neighborhood cafe with a great menu and service. We loved the cornned beef hash, potato pancakes. Go here instead of some chain or hotel restaurant more

Just been to Cafe 222 and the breakfast is out of this world. Sure it might be a little pricer than other places, but the quality of food and service of staff was superb. The Owner is very present, and as you're waiting for breakfast you'll see the prep going on too for the muffins and granola. Everything is freshly... more

Upon watching Best Thing I Ever Ate I had to try the banana & peanut butter french toast. They were amazing. Gooey, warm & not greasy. Apparently we showed up before the crowd on Sunday morning around 10 am. My husband also had a sausage pattie breakfast that he said was flavorful and filling. more

We found Cafe 222 (www.cafe222.com) on the day of our departure from San Diego. I wanted a good breakfast place near the Gaslamp area and I used Trip Advisor to search for one, settling on Cafe 222 vs. Richard Walker's. We arrived shortly after 8am on a Saturday and were seated right away, though the unseasonably cool weather might have... more

Make this restaurant a top priority for your trip to San Diego. We ate here on a Friday morning, and it was packed. The service was friendly and fast, and they offer patio seating, which is always a plus in San Diego. I had the peanut butter and banana stuffed french toast; it was unique and delicious! My husband had... more

I had the tamales and eggs and a latte it was one of the best breakfasts of my life. My husband had the stuffed French Toast and they even made a Mickey Mouse Pancake for my baby. I live in Southern Arizona and know good Mexican food and this was amazing! There was no line on a Friday morning (unlike... more
