Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Although we are from Newcastle in England, all I can say is thank you to Connor and all of the staff. They made us feel welcome as soon as we stepped into the pub which in turn we popped into every day! Bet you haven't...gone through as much Jack Daniels as soon as we left. Love to you all Helen and Keith xMore

Now known as Copper John's. Stopped in for a beer ... their "pints" appear to be 12oz glasses instead of 16oz. However, the beer was cold, the bartender was friendly, and the atmosphere is good in the late afternoon.

We ate here twice (now called Copper John's) first time on 1st day in NYC. We were shown a Booth upstairs as the bar was crammed. The menu was good and service friendly we ordered a Rueben with onion soup, open steak Sandwick, tuna tacos...and fish n chips. All tasted amazing and washed down with beer and cocktails. Only gripe, we were near a private function going on upstairs and when I approached the bar to talk to staff a snotty woman at the function confronted me and demanded to know who I was. I politely told her to sod off as I was a paying customer and wanted nothing to do with her function, staff intervined on my behalf to stop this horrible women blowing a fuse. Also be aware the tuna tacos are raw tuna, very tasty but it isn't well described on the menu. 2nd visit was sitting downstairs in the bar, good atmosphere with plenty of tv's to watch all major American sports. We had new york strip steaks and one grilled salmon, all tasty but asked for steak rare and got it medium rare, just a little point that might affect some people but it was an incredibly tasty 12 oz steak. Also grilled salmon and mash.. Delightful. Well worth a visitMore

Dropped in with friends to watch GAA match. This place has been rebranded as ‘Copper Johns’. The guys were from the same town in Ireland as the owner. The food and beer were good. However, we learned a few things, that need to be shared:...1. The traditional ‘pint’ has been downsized, at least in this and in the other two establishments nearly owned by the same guy. The price hasn’t! 2. The practice of the barman or barmaid buying a ‘round’ does not exist here. It seems that the owner does not permit staff to do this on their own. Other Irish bars in the locality do retain this practice and these should be supported. 3. And to rub salt into the wounds, as we were about to leave, we were asked to pay $10 per head in CA$H as we had watched a ‘live’ game! So disappointed to see a fellow Mayoman operate in this greedy fashion.More

The pub is newly renovated and renamed Copper Johns but still offers a great pub experience in midtown. Serves Guinness on tap.

Recently on a trip with a travel group we were able to take in most of the sights and sounds of NYC. Oldcastle was great with its corned beef sandwich and fries! Loved it!

My spouse and I visited the Oldcastle Pub and Restaurant for lunch on a Saturday in late July 2018. We were staying across the street at The London, and we easily spied this pub upon entering/exiting the hotel. The bar/restaurant is open daily from 8:00...am until 2:00 am for breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, and everything in between. The pub does not seem to accept reservations, but you can always telephone to ask . The Oldcastle Pub and Restaurant opened in Midtown in the year 2000. Its name refers to the Irish hometown of St. Oliver Plunkett, a 17th century martyr. (More accurately, St. Oliver hailed from Loughcrew Estate in County Meath.) The pub occupies a bi-level space mid-block on West 54th Street (between 7th and 6th Avenues). On the ground floor/street level, you can sit at the long L-shaped bar, at tables opposite the bar, or at a few half-booths. The space has many TVs so that you can keep informed of your favorite sporting event, including European football (soccer). Tile floors, terracotta and gold-colored walls, and lots of wood produce a homey feel. The second-floor dining room with its large paneled windows accommodates over 100 people and functions as the pub’s event space. The Oldcastle Pub serves upscale comfort food, some with an Irish/British slant. We shared the shepherd’s pie (traditionally topped with mashed potatoes) and the fish and chips (served with fries) as well as enjoyed a few rounds of drinks. The Oldcastle Pub met our needs for a casual meal near our Midtown hotel.More

Wanted to get lunch before our Broadway play. It was pouring and this was right next to our hotel so we decided to give it a try. Really wish we would have ventured out and had a nice lunch somewhere else. We were seated and...only given a brunch/breakfast menu. Service was extremely slow, our food took forever and to top it off, the food was below average. Eggs Florentine was not good. Will not be back. Very disappointing.More

We had lunch there, then returned two days later for dinner. It was near our hotel, made for a convenient quick lunch between meetings. Service was friendly. The portions generous, hot, and well cooked. We will return whenever we are in the city again.

My boyfriend & I spent the weekend at The London NYC and this neat little pub was directly across the street. Since the hotel food was outrageously priced, we figured we’d try here. We went around 4:30 Friday evening & it was slow (which is...exactly what we’re looking for since we hated feeling crowded & rushed while we eat). He each got a beer, nachos as an appetizer, and a burger. The waitresses were very nice & accommodating. Everything was reasonable priced for NYC. I thought the nachos were quite good. They were fully loaded with cheese, black olives, jalapeños, sour cream & guacamole. I liked the burger- it was made exactly how I wanted it ordered & the fries came in a mini fry basket which was cute. We would definitely go back here if we were in the vicinity again.More

We asked the concierge at the Sheraton Times Square Hotel to recommend an Irish pub for supper, and he sent us here. We were very happy with the food - the clam chowder was amazing, the fish and chips were excellent, and the shepherd’s pie...was as good as it gets. This was probably our best meal during our five days in the city, and our waitress was also the friendliest server we experienced this week. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a sports atmosphere with great food.More
