We visited Flute in the spring at which time the manager welcomed us and we had spectacularly made drinks as part of their Tuesday Happy Hour. The room is very nice and comfortable, and the noise level is low so we knew we would return....Last week we returned and were disappointed. The room is still very nice, and the food was fine. But the drinks were awful and the wait service indifferent. Odd as it may sound, the best Manhattans are made anywhere but IN Manhattan (in fact for us, the most consistently good cocktails are made in Maine of all places). Regardless, the drinks were small (only filled half the normal sized glass) and were over sweet. We pointed this out to the bartender and he very politely said he’d remake them, which he did, but again we were each given a half drink. If happy hour to them is half a drink at half price, they can keep it. Sadly, it is getting much harder to find well made drinks served in a quiet civil setting in Manhattan. More and more you have to pay high prices for mediocre or badly made drinks in noisy or depressing settings. I hope Flute improves.More
Flute is a little hard to find because it is a floor down from the street. Just take a short flight of stairs from the sidewalk, and you’ll be taken away from the bustle of Midtown Manhattan into an intimate drinking den. It is very...romantic (really good date sport!) and their champagne/ wine selection is pretty good. Ah, they also have beer and cute cocktails Tuesday is Champagne Happy Hour day – perfect girls night out!! Definitely my favorite wine spot in midtownMore
1 level underground in what must have been a really cool place to go and "steal" some alcoholic beverages during prohibition and maybe some company this place though small is cozy and quaint. Flute has several rooms all with eclectic tables and chairs and a...bar that serves mainly champagne but does a great job with cocktails as well. Small plates are also available but would not be considered a full dinner. A great place for quiet conversation or to meet at the small but busy bar. A real treat!More
I went to Flute twice this trip-- the service was beyond expectations and the hors d'oeuvres and beverages were excellent. Great atmosphere for our Carnegie after party. Highly recommend.
Their website says in numerous places that Tuesday happy hour runs from 5 - 8 pm. But once you are there they tell after you have ordered that happy hour ended at 7 pm. they do this 2 minutes after 7 pm. They offer some...weak excuse that the boss hasn’t updated the website. The champagne is flat. I guess they get rid of yesterday’s champagne during happy hour. We had two different champagnes and both were flat. Attitude of staff is pathetic. Seating is dusty and will make you sneeze. Simply don’t bother with this place.More
Sorry to hear about this, I am going to update the website. This is totally my fault :( !!! I can understand why you are unhappy Please email me at hrousseau1@mac.com and I ll VIP you with a gift certificate of $50 anytime you want....More
We planned to have an after-work gathering and selected Flute because of curiosity and proximity. The minute we walked down the staircase and into the establishment, it took a while to adjust to the darkness. A few of us arrived a little early and as...we were reviewing the menu, both myself and another person started having a reaction to the musty mold heaviness of the air. Itchy scratchy throat and eye/nose irritation. We had to make a quick decision and find another place to accommodate our group and redirect our colleagues elsewhere. The menu was extremely limited but I'm sure the vibe is more late night lounge. We did make an excuse to leave and the one thing I will say is that our encounter with the staff was nothing but nice.More
This place has a cool speakeasy/prohibition history - makes it better than most of the meh midtown bars all around. The drinks we had were creative and really good with friendly service. Went on a Saturday night and it had some people, but space to...sit. Would return if in midtown.More
I visited on a Prohibition tour and out guide encouraged us to be experimental in our choice of cocktails after a sip of moonshine. I tried a Gabriel cocktail based on gin & topped with champagne, delicious and strong! Great to visit an original speakeasy...bar, but more of a romantic venue than a gal on her own could take!More
Booked a mixology class here with friends of ours. It was a 3 hour event. 1 1/2 hours of mixing 3 drinks and then 1 1/2 hours of open bar and small plates. We had a lot of fun with our bartender Max. He explained...each ingredient in detail and let us pick our last drink to mix. It was such an awesome experience! We will definitely come back and try the champagne flights! Love the cool comfy vibe of this place!More
Its a nice underground bar, seems to have lots of events going on at different nights, so seems quite busy.
Went for their 2 for 1 Tuesday special. Had 2 flutes of Charles Heidseick. Awesome! The bar is down a flight of steps. It's dark, cozy and great for couples or friends. Good selections by the glass and even more extensive bottle service. They also...have a full bar and small plates.More
A small, dark, intimate, historic speakeasy bar. They specialize in champagne, but have all sorts of fantastic drinks. However, every drink incorporates some champagne to top it off and give it something special.
On Friday January 5, we chose Flute to kickoff a girls trip weekend. What could be more perfect than a champagne happy hour to start our weekend? We arrived around 5pm and found the place to be empty so getting a table was easy. The...young woman working was not helpful. She provided 2 menus for four people and quickly retreated to the bar. After waiting for 15 minutes, i approached the bar and asked her if we could order. She instructed me to have a seat and she would be with me when she could. Remember, the place was empty. A few minutes later she approached our table. We inquired about happy hour specials because there is literally a sign that says happy hour. She stated they do not have a happy hour at this location. She made it very clear that she was not interested in her customers. This all seemed very strange but since we were already there we ordered two champagne flights and two cocktails. The drinks were well made and beautifully presented. Based upon the appalling service and downright rude behavior displayed by their employee i will not be returning. There are too many choices in NYC to ever be treated so badly. We moved on to Raines Law Room...i would give them 10 stars. Skip the attitude here and find another spot.More
Flute Midtown is in dire need of an atmosphere update...however, the champagne selection is unparalleled in the city. The woman serving the night we were there has an exceptional understanding of what makes a great champagne. Her suggestion were all spot on! This location is...convenient.More
