My wife bring me here for my birthday and it was the best place to be! It is very private and the food is unbelievable good one of my best birthday ever:)
As my son lives in Williamsburg, we never visit without stopping into Zenkichi for a great meal! The atmosphere is interesting as it's very dark, maze like, and all the private booths have blinds! The service is excellent and the waiter will help you in your selections. The Sake Tasting menu is great and the food is excellent: Cold Fresh... More
I had heard about Zenkichi from many friends and on my last visit two weeks ago I finally got a chance to experience this for myself. I have been to Tokyo before and was guided by a local, since returning from that trip I have been consistently disappointed by western interpretations of Japanese cuisine as well as the atmosphere offered.... This place has amazing food! I personally don't think the ambiance is as good as what some people are describing. It's dark and hot and some of the tables especially the ones by the corners of the building are really tight. The service is okay but I think it has a strange and pretentious feeling to it. But I can't... More
This restaurant is very quirky! you would not think of going inside if you walked past but once youre in, it is very interesting. the layout is all dark and maze like so you can get lost but i love the blinds with each booth. very romantic! food was delicious!! cant go wrong! and its cheaper than places in NY... I've visited here twice so far and will recommend it to friends. Zenkichi provides private seating area in a booth perfect for romantic dining for couples and groups. Price is a little on the higher end but the food & the experience is definitely worth a try. Planning another visit here this month for some Japanese beers & wasabi octopus.
At $179 (including tax + tip) for the omakase menu for two, plus two beers, I have mixed feelings about this place. The Omakase (a sort of tasting course) didn't have any sushi and instead felt like a tasting course of small plates. I was surprised by the lack of sushi (but I am a fan of Japanese small plates... The private booth, the decor, the fine taste, the finesse, the attention to detail was just perfect..we tried wasabi octopus, chicken in bamboo, fish and 6 types of sake. If you haven't been to this gem you should.
My friend and I were fortunate enough to share a private booth and really enjoyed a perfect chef's tasting menu with sake paring.
Make your special someone feel even more special with a visit to this hidden gem. The service is awesome ("private booth"), the food is amazing (try the wasabi octopus), and make sure to get plenty of sake. It is a bit noisy, depending on your neighbors, but still very cozy for two to enjoy a special night.
