We took a trip to the North Shore for MEA. We started with a fried herring basket. Needed a little salt but WOW did those disappear in a hurry! My wife and I had the lake trout, hers with the wild rice, cranberries and shitake mushrooms and mine with the spinach pasta. Came with a colorful salad and homemade bottles... more

Wholesome foods. Fresh garden salads with superb presentation served along with wild blueberries when in season. All fish is fresh and grilled to perfection. Wild rice is hand picked and served with mushrooms and cranberries. Well worth the trip for great food and just to dine near the water. more

This completely sustainable restaurant carries nothing but the freshest fish (right out of the Lake in front of your table) and local produce. The soups (wild rice without a cream base, trout chowder) and salads are out of this world. Desserts to die for! In particular, the grilled Lake Trout or Herring dinner is superb. Try it with the wild... more

I was stunned by the Angry Trout Cafe--I had some of the best fish I've ever eaten sitting on the harbor in Grand Marais with fabulous views of Lake Superior. The Angry Trout's grilled lake trout is marvelous--fresh and delectable. The Cafe uses local ingredients for its sides, including locally picked wild rice, blueberries and mushrooms. Its dishes, chairs, tables... more

We all ordered the trout dinner with wild rice and salad. Every bite was a pleasure. Sit on their deck and watch the boats come in. This was by far the best meal of our ten day trip around Lake Superior. You definitely get more than what you pay for here. more

My husband and I ate at the Angry Trout cafe, and our food was awesome. It was the best fish he's ever had - firm, flaky, not soggy. I had free-range chicken and chips. VERY GOOD!! I only support humane farming, so never get to eat meat away from home. This was the first place I've ever found free-range meat.... more

We had ok fish, at a large price, not worth it, when there are so many good eats in Grand Marais. We had an issue with our bill, not our fault, but their mistake, and they were unwilling to see that. We were basically asked to leave when we tried to point out the mistake. Horrible treatment, soggy fish, why... more

We had several reccomendation to vist the Angry Trout on our trip to Grand Marais. So off we went (walked from our hotel, so Mommy and Daddy could have a bottle of wine and walk the baby home!). After a bit of a wait (not bad a nice lady came out and got us a glass of wine while we... more

Made reservations here after reading reviews. Was told a 20 minute wait which was fine. While waiting we were served homemade pop which did not taste good at all- more like syrup water. Once our name was called after waiting over a half hour- the waitress noticed they made an error on our reservation and didn't reserve seats for our... more

We've been to Chez Jude, the Crooked Spoon, the Gunflint Tavern and Angry Trout. Having covered all the best options for dining right in Grand Marais, the Angry Trout is my favorite. Not the fanciest cuisine (Chez Jude and the Crooked Spoon are fancier) or the arguably the "best" food (Chez Jude gets that) but the best overall experience for... more
