Dining at the Commander's Palace in the Garden District of New Orleans was quite the pleasant experience. The atmosphere is elegant, but not overstated. It takes you back to another era. The service was prompt, complete, and pleasant. There was no pandering or gratuitous visits from the staff, simply excellent service. When we asked about what direction we should head... more

My husband & I took our first trip to New Orleans in November. We were trying to avoid any 'touristy' spots, but our B & B innkeeper, Tom, recommended we have at least 1 lunch at Commander's Palace. He called and made us a reservation. We were extrememly lucky with the weather the week we were there and the patio/courtyard... more

We went to Commander's Palace for my 51st birthday dinner and it was perfect. Upon arrival, the doormen helped us from our cab, greeted us warmly and guided us inside. I chose Commander's because of its reputation and reviews by other diners. I said to the manager that we had come down from Connecticut to have my birthday dinner here... more

This is an outstanding restaurant: the evening setting is beautiful, the food is amazing, the drinks are amazing, and the service... well, it puts other places to shame in an extreme way! If you have the opportunity to go to only one restaurant while you are in NO, this is the one to go to! more

This is my second visit to Commander's Palace and my first since Katrina. I have to say I cannot believe why ANYONE wouldn't wax poetic about the food. I'm pretty particular about what I eat and I had not one bad thing to say about my experience. From entering the door that is held open for you, the friendly smiles... more

It has been been a long time -- since I visited the Dome Restaurant in El Paso, TX, actually, that I went to a restaurant who collects 4-5 waiters so that they can present the food to the table simultaneously. This is almost a lost art. And seldom are waiters so elegantly attired, nor take their job quite so seriously.... more

A New Orleans must! Located in the Garden District. It's pricey, but it's worth the royal treatment. The quail entree scared me at first but found it superb. The bread pudding with whiskey sauce is to die for. Make sure you request the main dining room otherwise you'll be seated in the gazebo. Not the same experience. Watch out for... more
