Eating at Brigtsen's made for a charming evening. Although we arrived 15 minutes early, the staff unlocked the door and promptly seated us. The service was impeccable the entire evening. For an appetizer I had the butternut shrimp bisque and had to restrain myself from licking the bowl. Although I found the broiled gulf fish entree rather bland for my... more

We ate here on a recent trip to New Orleans in Nov 2009. I would think you need a reservation, and it is in the "Uptown" area. Our dinner entrees were excellent (We ordered Tuna & the seafood sampler) For dessert we had the banana bread pudding - I would suggest making another selection for dessert. My only complaint was... more

Brigtsen's is in a quiet neighborhood, two blocks from the St. Charles trolley stop. Small, separate rooms, accommodate only a few tables each, so reservations are probably a must. We made our reservations long-distance and two weeks in advance. We were celebrating a special ocassion and the host and staff did their best to make it memorable. Meals are on... more

First off wonderful and great staff. The restaurant is inside a house, but it is very unique and only adds to the New Orleans Southern Charm. The appetizer we chose was BBQ shrimp. The BBQ shrimp was delicious and if you ever have tried it New Orleans Style you will not be disappointed. I had really high expectations about the... more

Two of us had the veal and split a piece of pecan pie. The vegies with the veal, outstanding. The veal, top notch. The shrimp very good. The pecan pie was good, but much different to what I am use to. The third person had a salad and soup, followed bt bread pudding. Salad and soup very good. They will... more

This has been and will remain one of my favorite restaurants. The setting is charming, the waitstaff is accommodating and attentive, and the food is something to write home about. We elected to order the Brigtsen Seafood Platter (instead of individual appetizers) which included shrimp cornbread, grilled drumfish, baked oyster bienville (you get the idea-check the website). Our entrees included... more

The shrimp bisque is to die for, as is everything else on the menu! Really one of the gems in New Orleans. Great prices for what you get - atmosphere, service, and the Chef is amazing. more

If your idea of a "traditional" New Orleans restaurant is a loud, over the top, homage to excess experience, then this is not your restaurant. The food is outstanding and the service is excellent. But it's a careful, thoughtful restaurant where the food is as beautiful as it is delicious--without being overly precious. The result: excellent southern Louisiana cooking at... more

Just a quick review that the positive reviews heretofore are indeed correct. We were 1st timers the day before FQF in mid April and enjoyed the streetcar ride (about 30 minutes from Poydras) through the mansions along St Charles Ave. Its a quiet small cozy place with excellent food. I'd leave the kids at home as $$$ add up, but... more

A local NOLA resident friend introduced me to Brigtsen's twenty years ago (Yikes!). Since then I've traveled to scores of countries and eaten at hundreds of five-star restaurants. Brigtsen's remains my favorite restaurant on the planet. Friends and I have flown to NOLA at New Year's specifically to spend New Year's Eve with Frank, Marna and Company. I am physically... more
