Went here based on the recommendation of a local. A throw back to the 50's. The interior is red leather chairs, trophies behind showcases on the wall, smoking is allowed and a big bar. I felt like I was in a pub from the mid fifties. the bowl of butt is fried halibut and it's served with oniion rings. Very... more

We have eaten at Thorns several times while visiting Seward to fish. The halibut was as fresh as if I had brought it straight from the charter boat. The "Bowl of Butt" doesn't come with anything, but we usually order a prime rib dinner also and have our own Surf and Turf. The dinner does come with salad and a... more

Halibut that is. After a long morning (very cold temps and gale force winds) fishing, we went here for lunch. Mom and I shared the 12 piece bowl of 'but and added french fries & onion rings. My son got the chicken cordon bleu sandwich. Our halibut was delicious with clearly fresh tartar sauce. The waitress wasn't very attentive, but... more

The prices were higher than average (even for Seward), and the place was so smoky we left before ordering food. more

We visited in June, and took a break from the Sea Life Center to grab lunch. Pulled in by the bowl of but (halibut), we weren't disappointed. We ordered the large halibut, fries, and onion rings and 4 of us ate comfortably. Halibut was served with one of the best homemade tartar sauces I've ever had --- I wanted to... more

We had a half day to explore Seward post-cruise before catching our shuttle to Anchorage. Thorn's was on our list of places to try, based on a recommendation we saw on an online forum. We passed Thorn's on our way to Sea Life Center. It's the last place on the left side of the street (big yellow sign). We took... more

I loved the atmosphere at Thorn's. I guess you could say I appreciate tacky. The "bowl of but" (halibut) was very pricey at around $23 for a salad bowl full - period - no fries, nothing else! Someone had recommended that we try another place in Seward but we couldn't remember the name so we ended up at Thorn's. Okay,... more

Overall: Reasonable value for bar and greasy-spoon food. Food: We had lunch here, so I cannot judge their dinner offerings. We ordered 2 sandwiches and the chicken parmesan. All dishes were reported as tasty, and portions were not huge but enough to be filling. Aside from the breakfasts at the B&B, this food was probably the most consistently tasty of... more

I was eager to try this place after reading reviews here. I did not find this place worthy of the reviews. It was dark, smoky and I did not find the halibut the best I had in Seward. Service was friendly, but its a bar room, there so many better places in Seward. The prices were comparable to water front dining. more

This is by far the best resturant in Seward. It is locally owned and uses fresh local seafood. The staff is very friendly and the food is very good. Try the Halibut bowls. Fantastic Fish. Large chunks of halibut with the best flavor ever. Goes great with veggies or whatever you like to go with it. The specials were allways... more
