I was surprised to read the review from another visitor to Don Jose's, which rated it poorly. I really like Don Jose's. The food is delicious, the service very friendly (especially to families with young children), and the atmosphere cool. They recently updated the restaurant, decor, menu, etc - and it has made a big difference in the overall impression... more

There are lots of good Mexican restaurants in Anchorage. Don Jose's is not one of them. The refried beans are tasteless and runny--as if from a pre-mix. I'm not sure where they get their chicken meat from, but it was rubbery and overcooked. You would also expect the chips to be good in a Mexican restaurant--think again! Also, the service... more
