Our waitress treated us to chcharrones (little pieces of tender roasted pork that are deep fried) - she said the customers get upset when they run out of these. They are to die for - you dip them in salsa and eat with the freshly-made, puffy in fact, tortillas. It doesn't get betterthan this. more

Just back from NM, ate at Barelas twice. I do not think you will find a better place for food in New Mexico. The locals know and now, thanks to TripAdvisor, so do I. Not fancy, but great food. I had the best Huevos Rancheros here that I have ever had. Recommend you go. more

If you think the food is good here, you haven't seen nothing yet if you haven't tried THIS! The red chili meat has been marinated and has a flavor to die for. People who don't like this place must have had eggs and toast....YOUR IN NEW MEXICO NOW!!!! more

I love coming here, the food is always consistently good. During lunch their are usually long lines to get a table but it's worth the wait. more

This place just has to be seen to be believed. It's not particularly convenient, definitely not a posh neighborhood, everything kind of shabby, but always packed with Albuquerque's elite because the food is just incredible. New Mexico cooking is the best, of course, but this is among the best in New Mexico. Never had anything that wasn't good. more

I love the Menudo (Tripe Soup). Here in New Mexico they cook the tripe and then you get to pick whether or not you want red or green chile in it. The tortillas are also great and I love the Chicharones (deep fried pork pieces). Not a good place to go if you are on a diet and not if... more
