I don't eat out / get out much these days, but I know a bit about restaurants. That being said, I am only qualified to talk about food & service. After reading some of the stuff here, I wish I was qualified to give detailed analysis on things I know nothing about like some reviewers (haters). Anyhow, I went to... more

Three of us had a business dinner at The Mooring last Thursday evening, December 10th. The restaurant was typically quiet midweek in the off-season. The service was fine. Warm rolls are brought in a paper bag which is rather annoying - what are you supposed to do with the empty bag - and the rolls were rock hard. We asked... more

Dear Electra225, Thank you for your recent visit to the Mooring and for providing feedback on your experience. I am very sorry to see that you felt the experience only warrented two stars. I would like to address some of the specifics that you point out in your review. The rolls that we serve are baked to order and delivered...

Really hate to complain...I never do because we travel & eat out alot. This is the opinion of 2 people who enjoy a good/great meal. Our final bill @ The Moorings was a total surpirse @ $105.00 for 2 people with no drinks or desert. A single filet was $35.00 ala cart. We asked prior to ordering and was given... more

My husband and I made a reservation here through Open Table for a Saturday night. We arrived a few minutes early and had to wait just a few minutes then were seated. No problem at all with the reservation. I had also requested a view of the water in my reservation, and we got that. The restaurant is more lively... more

we booked here for a Sat night dinner and got right in with a table in the center of the room (we were also offered outside seating). The food was very good with large portions -- Sole francaise was 2 large filets. Very good service ifor a full, busy dinner service and pleasant open, high-ceiling decor. I was surprised by... more

We had family visiting from out of town so we stopped in on a sunny September day for lunch before we walked around Newport. The meals were great and the view was better. My husband and I are both vegan and unfortunately there wasn't anything on the menu for us except a salad so we asked if the chef would... more

Dear Tweb08, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience at the Mooring. I apologize for the portion size of your stuffed pepper - it had been adjusted down to a lunch portion but apparently the price was not. That was clearly our mistake and it should have been caught - we will address it...

We had a party of 22 and we stormed the bar while we waited for our group to gather and our table to be ready. We had a great spot on the porch, the food for 22 took a while but all came out together hot and everyone was happy. Not a complaint in crew. The food was well prepared... more

We had supper resevations on Friday at 8pm. The place was busy, great atmosphere. We had a lovely waterview from our table. We had the bag of Doughnuts to start. Delicious.I had the seafood pie which was divine, my husband had the mixed seafood, similar to a bouillibaise, it was nice. Servings were huge. We skipped dessert and just had lattes.... more

My wife and I went on Monday. It was steady but not a usual summer Newport crowd. The hostess and waitress were nice but the overall service was okay. Our food was less than spectacular. We started with the scallop chowder (Awesome!) and the mussels (overcooked). My wife had the open face turkey sandwich (AWFUL) with fries (delicious) and I... more

It's hard to decide which restaurants in Newport are tourist traps and which are worth visiting. We found The Mooring by accident and were glad we did. They easily accomodated our dining with our small daughter to enable us to also have a good meal. more
