My husband and I have been traveling to Newport several times a year for many years and finally had dinner at the White Horse Tavern. What a HUGE disappointment. The food was mediocre bordering on bad, the atmosphere was not as cozy as I had imagined, and the waitstaff acted as if we were almost a bother (and we are... more

We traveled to Newport for the holiday - had reservations for at White Horse Tavern - they confirmed with us twice When we arrived they were busy and the atomsphere was stressed - asked us to wait outside as our table was not ready. We stood outside for about 40 minutes - asked if there was someplace we could get... more

We ordered 3 diet cokes. The waitress asked if we wanted refills. We said yes. The price for the drinks was $22.50 when we received the bill. The glasses were small so with the refills I doubt if the total was 12 fl ounces which is the size of a canned soda. I don't remember seeing the cost of drinks... more

The White Horse Tavern is one of the oldest taverns in the U.S. and was featured on Rachel Ray's Travels. We anticipated a far more memorable experience than was had. The atmosphere was uptight, pretentious and uncomfortable. There is far better food in Newport particularly at this price point. The service was outstanding and the wait staff is almost obstrusively... more

I loved this place. Absolutely the best lobster bisque I have ever had, and I grew up spending summers in Maine...so I know lobster bisque. We only sampled the tavern menu, but I've never seen bar food like this before. The goat cheese in apricot sauce was heaven. The burgers were amazing. Just a warning that the dining room dinner... more

The white horse tavern has changed my life. The food was amazing, the service was impecable and the owner was the nicest man i have ever spoken with. Everything that we ordered came in less that 20 mins and it was quite busy. The atonmosphere and history was amazing. This was the best dining experience that i have ever had. more

We recently revisited the White Horse Tavern after a number of years; fearing that either the atmosphere or the food's quality had declined, we braced ourselves, but we needn't have feared disappointment. There certainly was no need for reservations for lunch -- the place was virtually empty (not shocking for a Monday) -- so our attentive, helpful service may have... more

Went there years ago for our wedding night dinner, and have returned a couple of times since. Recently went for lunch and had an excellent meal. The waiter was young and personable. Unfortunately he forgot our soup, and felt very bad about it. Our lunch was delicious. After we ate we went upstairs to the room where we had our... more

The White Horse Tavern claims to be the oldest operating tavern in the US. The restaurant is divided into a bunch of small rooms, all in dark wood, lit by candlelight and the wood-burning fireplace. It's probably the most romantic restaurant I've ever been to, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly for any couple looking to make an occasion special.... more
