The food was bad and not as described The service was bad and I was actually shouted at when I complained and told to not come again

We had been to an Alpacca farm up the road and decided to stop in Usk for lunch. We hadn’t pre booked and it was Mothers Day. The nice gentleman said it was no problem to find a table for just two. Menu wasn’t extensive...but had what I wanted. Husband had the starter of fishcakes as a main and I had the ham and egg. Really nice apart from the chunky chips which were hard inside. Wish I had ordered the skinny fries now. Husband said fishcakes were delicious and you could tell they were handmade. The waiting staff were all smiles and happy , which was nice and give you enough attention without being intrusive. On leaving I was given two bunches of daffodils and told ‘ happy Mother’s Day ‘. That was a nice gesture. Will be visiting Usk again in May and will be having lunch here for sure.More
What a great find! We wanted a good lunch for three people and this really exceeded our expectations on every level. A very cheerful lady took my phone booking which was a good start and we had a lovely warm welcome from both the staff...in the pub when we arrived. Our table was ready and we were offered drinks straight away. Our meals were sirloin steak, Glamorgan sausages (veggie) and poached salmon. I don't think we've ever had such clean plates. All three meals were absolutely delicious. The pudding menu was terrific - between us we had ice cream, sorbet and the blackberry and apple tart which came with a whole jug of custard - bliss. This was the first time we'd been to the Nag's Head and we will certainly be back. It's a good halfway point for us all to meet, so we will meet up more regularly with such a great pub to lure us back. Thank you to all the staff who gave us such a great lunch!More
We popped in for lunch last week. A welcome as soon as we came through the door, the food was excellent, the service was spot on and a great ambience and attention. We will definitely be making a return visit.
Lovely pub restaurant. Great varied menu and cold guineas on tap!! We ate well; sirloin steak with all the trimmings, scampi and chips and veggie sausages with mash. The latter wasn’t great but they were taken off the bill without hesitation by the hostess. Highly...recommended!!More
Popped in on the off chance of a table Sunday lunchtime. A gentleman said that there was a table available and showed us to the said table. Unfortunately they didn’t do a roast, but the poached Salmon and faggots were amazing. (2 separate meals). Fresh...veg and 5 different types of potatoes to choose from. The other members of staff were friendly, smart and efficient. Spot on. The place was filling up nicely when we left.More
Walked in at 7pm on a Friday evening for a quick drink. The establishment was half full of people eating meals. Was told that I couldn't order a drink as there was nowhere available to sit. I get it that they're looking to just cater...for people eating meals, but don't call yourself a pub then!More
A delightful pub/restaurant full of atmosphere and a friendly welcome from the hosts. I’ve been coming here for 50 years and it’s so good to see the Key family still running the business to such consistently high standards. The menu is extensive and all home...cooked and all 5 of us were impressed by the quality and quantity of the various courses. My main course was duck in orange sauce - something one rarely sees these days. Delicious and a challenge to finish but I managed. Can’t recommend it highly enough and we’ll be going again soon.More
Great pub, loads of atmosphere, very friendly staff. Excellent food, all fresh ingredients and well presented.. Hot and tasty. Only problem was it was a little cold sitting , fine after eating our lunch.
Popped in this pub firstly as wife needed loo and to get out of the relentless rain in town. Decided to stay for coffees as it was that time. Nice chat with very hospitable landlord and very nice coffe. Will return for dinner we think.
What a great find! Family run pub with friendly staff and great food. We booked well ahead for a Saturday night evening meal. We were welcomed by the landlord to a homely traditional pub. Food chosen was hot, tasty and great value. Portions were good...and service was very efficient. Saturday night was busy, so glad we booked. Great location with local parking available, although we walked from our hotel just across the bridge in Usk. Everyone enjoyed the evening and food and would certainly return if in the area.More
Exceptionally friendly welcome. Lovely table in the window which was very comfortable. We both ordered the homemade steak pie, rosemary salt sautéed potatoes and vegetables. The food was absolutely perfect. Finished the meal with an excellent coffee. Every member of staff was very friendly and...service was first class. We had a very relaxing afternoon. Thank you.More
We called in for a drink and the place was empty around 5pm. So no atmosphere and no conversation from the man serving us. We decided to try it later in the evening at around 9.30 only to be told as we walked through the...door that he was closing. A couple of people in the bar but that was all. I’m sure that if the reception was more welcoming and friendly he might have more customers! Shame because all the reviews we read were positive? Perhaps he was having a bad day….More
Recently moved to Llangwm The atmosphere at the Nags Head was so friendly. The food was so fresh, absolutely perfect. Thanks See you soon 👍
Very good food from a good choice, service as attentive and polite. Well priced with good portions. The quality of the dishes good, salmon was flavourful and fresh. Steak pie eas generous with the steak, proper pastry lid in a lovely gravy. Side dishes were...very good as well. Pub has a very olde worlde feel so be prepared for horse and country theme (well it is the Nags Head). Great lunch followed by an walk around Usk, highly recommended.More
