A lovely place with great staff. Menu may be too short and simple for some but everything we had was perfectly cooked and very tasty. Great steak! Nice wine. Would recommend!

We visited the River Rat last week for our works Christmas do and had an absolutely fantastic evening! The food was AMAZING and the service was excellent. We were a large party of 18 and were very well looked after, nothing was too much trouble...and the staff could not have been lovelier! I would highyly recommend the River Rat and will definitely be returning in the future to enjoy the incredible food! Thank you for a wonderful evening!More
We celebrated our staff Christmas meal at the River Rat and had a fantastic evening. The staff were amazing and went above and beyond to ensure a fabulous evening was had by all. Sarah and her team were meticulous in every detail from the food,...through to the service and the entertainment. Thank you for a very enjoyable evening.More
Bubbles and Baubles Evening - making Xmas baubles with a glass of fizz! A brief introduction to creating our own baubles and any number of paints, glitters, ribbons - in fact any thing to add to a bauble. Glass of fizz and there followed two...hours plus of creativity. Food was ordered and baubles set aside for a few moments. The silence said it all - we all came away with at least two Xmas creations to be proud of! A most enjoyable evening and great value for money - thank youMore
Best in Hamble by a country mile.... actually, best in a country mile, not just Hamble!! Sunday lunch today and already we have plans to visit again for dinner...... but that will need to be another day...too full from lunch!!
We went to visit our son who was staying at the Marina in Hamble and he treated us to dinner on Saturday evening. The restaurant was on the second floor, which was brightly lit with fairy lights. The menu was limited. we had a starter...of baked camembert to share between the three of us. I had sausage and Mash, my husband had a burger and my son had a steak. The service was slow in parts.More
Had Sunday lunch with a friend, sat in the garden which was gorgeous in the sun & had a delicious roast, the Yorkshire pudding was huge! Homemade gravy & crispy potatoes. Just perfect.
It's 7.30 pm on a Friday night and I am the only one here. The service was amazing, the food was amazing, the house wine is amazing. I don't get it, what a fabulous spot. In truth the name Water Rat did dent my appetite...a bit! But get yourselves down here, menu is superb, with terrific specials that are not on the internet. I've been sailing in the Hamble for xx years, but my first time here, and it's my new favourite place in Hamble already. Stay away! Easier for us to get a table!More
Sunday lunch is great here, yummy roast dinner, extra gravy, extra roasties and lovely servers! Why bother cooking it yourself I've recommended the place to lots of my friends :)
This good cooking from a chef who is not tempted to put daft things on the plate make him or her different. This is food where a good ingredients cooked well with simple presentation makes a great meal. It's rare to eat a place like...this where the chef has the confidence to keep it simple and not write flowery menus with on trend. Simple understated food with good service.More
A superb menu - confident with great balance served swiftly with panache ! Lovely balance of flavours on the Garlic Prawns and the Stone Bass was awesome. Great dinner! Max was our waiter - great knowledge of content and brilliantly attentive!
We hadn’t booked but we’re warmly welcomed when we arrived . We chose a range of starters to eat tapas style together with chips ( quite possibly the best we have ever eaten) . The goats cheese bruschetta was especially good. The courtyard setting is...perfect for any occasion Thanks to Grace and her colleague for looking after us and to all the kitchen staff for a lovely meal.More
First time here as were camping up the road. On arrival for the Jazz and Fizz at lunchtime Daniel was warm and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. The beautiful secluded garden is a delight with thatched pods. We decided to dine here in the...evening and sat in the upstairs restaurant. Again Daniel was very welcoming. Our waitress was Grace who was lovely, a very knowledgeable young lady. Both lunchtime and evening you couldn't fault the food, first class. Good wine selection, one small criticism a shame they do not have beer and lager on tap, bottles only. Can't recommend The River Rat highly enough. Will certainly be returning.More
