Its the first time i have flown easyjet from gatwick. I know you check in on line but how does the bag drop work please? We have notbooked speedy boarder but have paid £3 for seats. Do you queue up and how early can you 'bag drop' and what do you do? Our flight leaves at 11.45. Thank you

You join the (communal) bag drop line. You should aim to be at the airport about 2 hours ahead of travel to allow time for Security and getting to your gate (once it's announced). IME it takes between 15 and 30 minutes to drop bags but EZY are good at prowling the line to find people with flights leaving imminently.

For an 11.45 I would aim to be at the bag drop line at 9.30 but I am happy to be a bit early and relax with a coffee or bite to eat rather than be panicking and running through the airport.

Bag drop is basically 90% of what you think check-in is.

EDIT: arbitrary figure being overly dramatic for effect

I agree that you need to get there as early as possible, even for bag drop! We got to Gatwick North 3 hours before our flight to Spain last year (I'm OCD about travelling!) and the queue at bag drop was really long, yes EJ do go along the line calling out for people who's flights are imminient but it still seems to take as long as checking in at the airport did, they still look at your passport, they still ask the same questions!

Coming back from Malaga we got there early again, luckily as the queue for over 30 mins before we got to the front - luckily they were again calling out for imminent flights.

Easyjet prowling the queue really annoys me! Why bother turning up early...arrive late and get to the front of the queue. After standing in a q for an hour at Newcastle once, as our flight was the last to be taking off in a group of 6 flights we ended practically being the last to get to the desk...massively p*ssed off!

I agree Saral - so annoying when the latecomers get the VIP treatment!

Queueing at security once, a woman shoved her boarding card in my face and shouted "can I cut in, I'm late" - I said "No". Perhaps if she'd been a bit more polite about it, I would have considered!

Although I am always early at the airport just in case there are traffic problems, I do understand that sometimes people will be late through no fault of their own no matter how early they leave, so I don't have a problem with EJ calling them forward if their flight is closing, I'd hope that someone would let me through if it was me.

Thanks everyone - cant say i am looking forward to the experience at Gatwick, as i am used to dropping bags off the night before when the airport is empty, but the flights times and days were better than leaving corfu on a monday or friday when the airport there is manic. Maybe i am just swapping manic Corfu for manic Gatwick but at least forewarned is forearmed. Thanks again.

Time wise it all really depends where you're flying from and time of day - my experience of EZY at gatwick both north and south terminal i've spent upto 45min at bag drop, but then it has been early morning when the bulk of their flights are departing - If you pay for speedy boarding, or extra legroom seats, or seats in the first 6 (i think) rows, you get access to a separate bag drop which does always seem to go a lot quicker
